Maybe it's because I'm playing it with my keyboard but I'm not good at this game.. I have big trouble when the treasure mechanic is introduced.

But the music is awesome

couple of suggestions after I did the tutorial.

vsync option is needed.

resolution options need work. I'm being offered only 16:9 resolutions on my monitor. and none of the actual resolutions I even have on a 16:10 monitor.

I will look into the Unity 2D engine and how it handles vsync. and implement it into the options if it support that.

And I will add 16:10 resolutions before launch tomorrow. Apologies for that!

Thanks for all the comments and help guys, really appreciate it!

should be no issues with adding vsync, as I had no trouble enabling it with nvidia control panel.

The game does have a bit of hitching going on occasionally(both with and without vsync). it's not game breaking, but if you repeat a level many times, it will stutter occasionally, which can ruin your run. split second freeze, and then you trigger something you shoudn't have.

I'm on chapter 5, highest difficulty, and now the game is challenging. been repeating the 3rd stage for 15 min at least now.

16:10 and 21:9 resolutions are advised, especially 21:9 as I know a lot of people that actually buy a ton of games, who won't buy them without 21:9 support, even if it's some indie game.

Wish you all the best Grechzoo! I believe this is the first game made by a fellow Humper that hits Gabe's store, you're making us proud haha Very Happy

(Especially after the mythological NFO Project Cuppah Joe, or what is left of it - only the name since there was nothing to begin with xD)

i basically did first four chapters in 30 min, and then spent 2 hours on chapter 5 stage 4 and 5 and ffs there is even chapter 6 now!!

Rage Rage Rage

and the damn hitching is killing me. it's fine the first few tries, but after several restarts it will start skipping until I restart the game. it's quite random too. you could go for two attempts no hitching, and then a split second hitch that ruins your run.
edit: hitching only happening in certain chapters. chapter 6 fine so far, but if I go back to some chapter 5 stages, hitching again.

I have never come across that, I'm so sorry, ill look into it today. do you know what levels in particular? (I'm going to guess level 4 and 5 of chapter 5, ill play them to death today and see if I can spot it.)

And yeah, sorry the game is god damn hard Smile

Also I have already updated the game to enable vSync by default, will work it into the options over the next day, and I have added full support for 16:10 resolutions. but due to the nature of game being all 2D and drawn images, 21:9 support simply wont be possible. Sad

Really appreciate your feedback, you have made my game a lot better in a matter of hours.

Grechzoo, I wish you all the best and success with your game!
As a programmer, someone who has also worked with Unity in the past, I know how much determination goes into developing a game single-handed. I hope you get a lot of sales to recover your investment but in all honesty, you've already accomplished the hardest part. You finished your game, you are on steam, it's just uphill from here!

Good luck! Smile

(It's not my kind of game but I'll be buying it to support you, no questions asked.)

Here are my specs in case that helps

i5 4670k
gtx970 latest drivers
win10 64bit
game installed on samsung 840pro SSD
8gb ddr3

The levels where I noticed hitching. chapter 5: 3-5, chapter 6:3-5. Some in earlier chapters as well, but basically it seems the more complex levels cause it. it only takes a few retries to happen for me. music will crackle and the character will freeze for a split second and then appear a bit ahead of where he was before the hitch.

Currently on the last stage of chapter 6 PC Master Race

Another thing I noticed, but not sure if that is intended: in a few stages while advancing forward, in sections that require a turn back towards the start of the stage (90 degree angle corridors for example), sometimes I was able to trigger previous cams/guards by looking in their direction for the split second that I press the button that triggers them.(i wanted to activate something ahead of me instead)

The thing is, I already activated them once, and from the rest of the game it seems each thing in the level can only be activated once per try, so it sounds like a bug. I think one such was in chapter 4, but it happened at least twice.

oh and great news on vsync and 16:10 resolutions.

And finished it. had a blast playing it. my last level time PC Master Race

 Spoiler:

the music and the tight gameplay didn't dissapoint. controls were great, challenge was definitely present in chapters 5 and 6. I actually have sore hands from the derp pad now. Laughing

you need good reflexes and a decent amount of muscle memory. some levels later on you really needed to get the muscle memory going, as there's not enough time to visualize every move in your mind during one run. you will have to press 5-6 key combos without even thinking about it, and then you pile that up as you advance, alternating between muscle memory patterns and quick thinking.

I didn't even take a look at the gold times as I do realize they would require perfection. a few levels I finished with 100th of a second left PC Master Race

the story comics didn't really do anything for me. They were a bit unclear on what is actually happening and why I should care about it in between the actual gameplay. Not sure if that was intended so people would observe them a bit longer to get some sort of narrative out of it, but I simply looked at them for a few seconds and then moved on to the actual gameplay as I saw nothing in them but bits and pieces of a family through the years.

Will write up a steam review a bit later.

took me around 9 hours to finish, give or take 30 min or so for idling.

But yeah, this is a quality indy title, quality wise I would put it in company with "defy gravity" and "and yet it moves". addictive, with great sound and visuals for the budget, and involving a lot of repeating of tough sections.

Thank you soooooo much. Your time and your write-up almost brought me to tears. it means a hell of a lot for someone to really invest their time effort, and to be compared to those games is an honour.

And you will be suprised how easy the gold times in the first 4 chapters are now you have beaten chapter 5 and 6. Wink

The story is definietly designed to be non-invasive, and subtle. It can either be really dug into by the enthusiastic (with tons of detail hidden in the frames) or it can be ignored for those who are just enjoying the game and want to keep playing.

I wanted to avoid scripts sequences, or lots of reading when I knew lots of people just wouldn't even care about the story anyway. so I think the visual nature and the fact you can take it in in seconds and move to the next level is a blessing.

Game goes live in 7 hours people!!!!

Ill update the thread when it does.

Wrote my review on Steam and posted a link of the game/steamstore on my spam facebook account... it has 1000+ 'friends' half of them cos players and half SJW (not really but it sure seems like that if I look at the posts ). The perfect hipster crowd to show a game that is indie.

Hopefully a few of them gives it a go. Smile

Edit: And I forgot: Steamcards... People buy anything to collect cards/badges/Icons, might as well tap into that market Razz

30% go to steam afaik.

BTW the game is really tough Laughing I don't get the hold LB mechanics though. Why do I have to hold it before and then leave it at a specific point. Also I didn't really get that I had to be in the direct vicinity of a "target" to let go of the LB mechanic. I mean, I got past the introduction to this mechanic, but by luck and I still stuck at it afterwards. I'd greatly appreciate if someone could elaborate Smile

Basically, hold Left trigger, until the runner goes gold (takes about a third of a second), and then basically be around half a corridors width away from the gold guard when you release to takes the key, or the treasure in that moment.

Hope that helps.

And yeah its 70%.
