Shooting begins this November. Plot / cast not yet known.

https://www.yahoo.com/movies/guillermo-del-toro-pacific-rim-2-starts-123781600467.html

The first one was Vomit Vomit Vomit so I'm hopeful for the sequel because it's hard to make something worse than the original.

i agree, del toro is incredibly talented, i dont think he knows how to suck at a sequel so im positive he wont do a worse job than the first one... and he set the bar pretty fucking high, so im very excited for the sequel.

that said... this.. or hellboy 3... im pretty torn, but id rather he delivered a third hellboy to be honest.. its been too long.

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

*happily joins the train of the Pacific Rimmers* xD
For me the movie was simple good fun, the brainless over-the-top type (but not insulting) that made me feel like a kid again. It basically succeeded at doing what many others have failed to do. (yes Bay, I'm looking at you!)

Looks like this one may have been cancelled.

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/hollywood-gorilla-warfare-s-universal-823715

Quote:
Legendary wanted to produce a sequel to del Toro's Pacific Rim, which was made under the Warners deal and turned into one of those films that grosses a lot ($411 million worldwide) while being so costly that a follow-up isn't a sure thing. Sources say Legendary liked that the original performed exceptionally well in China, where the company is heavily invested, but for now the project — which had been ramping up to make a release date in August 2017 — has been halted indefinitely and will be pushed back (if it gets made at all).

Still happening: http://www.ew.com/article/2015/09/17/pacific-rim-2-guillermo-del-toro

Quote:
But at least one person thinks the Pacific Rim sequel is still happening. “We are still turning in a screenplay and a budget in three weeks,” writer-director Guillermo Del Toro tells EW. “As far as I’m concerned, it’s not gone. We’re still on it.”

Del Toro says the film’s delay is only temporary. “It moved further,” he says. “I may do another movie in the middle.”

Watched Pacific Rim 3 days ago... still pretty meh (gave some films second chances the past 2 weeks ).

And the reason to that is the shitty humor in it... feels like the bits are made for children. I'm guessing they wanted the kind like in Starship Troopers, but they failed. Went too far in their 'absurdism' which degraded the whole experience. Especially those scientists... felt like watching a puppet show.

The attention to detail, effects and such are quite nice... but due to the direction they went I just can't say it is a good movie. I throw it in the pile with Transformers. Entertains but I will sigh and get annoyed a lot.

So, I'll watch the sequel but I'll probably end up bitching about it.

It appears Universal shitcanned Del Toro and resurrected it.

http://deadline.com/2016/02/pacific-rim-2-directed-by-steven-deknight-spartacus-creator-legendary-pictures-guillermo-del-toro-1201708221/

Quote:
EXCLUSIVE: Legendary Pictures has set Steven S. DeKnight to direct Pacific Rim 2, the follow-up to Guillermo del Toro and Travis Beacham’s 2013 epic action-adventure film. The current script was written by Jon Spaihts based on characters created by Beacham and del Toro. Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni, del Toro, and Mary Parent are producing and Jillian Share will be executive producer. Universal Pictures will release the film worldwide in 3D.

No date known. DeKnight was the creator and head writer of Spartacus and showrunner and head writer of Daredevil Season 1 (with the exception of the first two episodes).

Ok not shitcanned but politely told no thanks we'd rather put it on hold, as they did. Del Toro would have been attached as at least an executive producer anyway because he created the world and characters of the first movie - but it looks like he is actually a full blown producer. But if he doesn't get a "story by" credit or something then creatively he might as well be shitcanned, unless he says otherwise.

New writer on board: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/pacific-rim-2-enlists-jurassic-893215

Derek Connolly (Hollywood's latest go-to writer for monster-ish movies; Jurassic World and the future Jurassic World 2 and Kong: Skull Island) is writing the latest version of the script.

At the moment it's unknown if this is a page 1 rewrite of what Del Toro developed.
