Damn that avatar creature sure is crafty.
The game seems to cheat sometimes, like hiting you with a rifle when you are at sniper rifle distance in full cover.. but after all, its XCOM.
Great game moments overall. Well done boys

So I finally played this a bit. So far I really like it, but as it's my first XCOM game I really suck at it, even on "normal" difficulty. I had a mission to save 6 civilians in some colony, I didn't manage it in time, and all my 5 soldiers were either captured or kia. Mission ended in a failure but I still could continue playing without reloading a save. Is this intended and possible to just admit defeat without retrying through loading save? I kinda like that sometimes I win just barely and take heavy casualties, and some missions fail completely and permanently (rogue-like, in a sense).

You can survive some mission failures. You may even get the opportunity to rescue captured soldiers on latter missions.

Most definitely!
But then you can just crank up the difficulty or use some other mods like increasing the amount of enemies to counter-balance if you like.
It's all about the customization to get it to play the way you want.
It would also be possible to just modify their behavior instead of skipping the move entirely.
Like, maybe make them spread out but not into the best cover, so they aren't as susceptible to grenades but still allow you to deal with them a bit more easily than normally. Or limit the amount of tiles they can move in this situation, etc.
All the AI routines are exposed so it's a simple matter to achieve anything like that to your tastes.

Heh, yeah, the sword is kind of neutered in comparison to the shotgun. Especially on higher difficulties with more enemy health the accuracy penalty is just salt in the wound.
By the way, what happens when you Bladestorm a Muton? I don't recall ever seeing that. I only ever directly sword attacked one just the one time.

I don't think it's been patched yet so you'd better wait a bit more.

So, what happens after you return from a mission in the dropship and you press any button to proceed? Right before the dropship landing cinematic. I am aware there should be an extra screen or something, but I can't see anything, only darkness.

You land on the Avenger and your soldiers walk back to a summary screen, just like the load out screen before they leave. It can bug out though and the Avenger can fail to load. Several times I have had it stuck with a side-on view of a half-rendered Avenger. In that case you can try loading the auto-save from the start of your last turn and finishing the mission again. Sometimes it loads properly, but sometimes you may have to go back before the start of that mission and do the whole thing again.

Yeah I know what you mean, and I have no idea what it's doing there.
Perhaps they're hiding the streaming in of textures while the cutscene is paused behind the black screen or something.
Just another one of those little things that shows the game could have used a few more months for polish.

You could post the save, maybe someone can get you a save from the start of the map. Just remember that if you use any mods you need to list what they are, as the game won't load a save if mods are missing.
Also, assuming you do get the mission to run, don't quit until you finish. There is a known bug that can cause it to permanently corrupt your save if you save and exit halfway through.

Yeah every game (within reason) should allow that imo, why the heck not? Civilization style, just tell the player that the game is over, but if they like they can keep playing some more.
It doesn't have to be balanced or anything.
At least an endless mode should be possible with mods.

Nah, not that. What Surray wrote below your post.
Has no-one else noticed it apart from the two of us?

I thought you meant it was frozen or something. Are you talking about where the screen is black for a few seconds and there are little points of light? If so, I gather that is the Avenger still loading in.

So many problems in the last mission, my god..
Spoiler: | Arrived in the last room and killed one avatar so far.
After that each round one more enemy group with heavy units arrives. There are now about 4-5 groups with each 4~ units. |
Also just now i started to get these graphical glitches. Temps are just fine.

I have seen that last room graphics glitch twice on stream, both times it corrupted save files.

Yeah I saw some else post a similar graphical glitch on the X2 Reddit sub earlier today.
As to your other problem, sounds like you may have the same issue Toni had, with the final guy teleporting outside the level.

I think it's supposed to be like that, after you kill all 3 avatars the mission ends though, focus on them.

Yes, that's exactly what I was referring to. I thought it was my slow-ass rig acting up, seeing how the cinematics play at like 10 fps...
