Ok so i googled next nvidia gpu and found several dates and infos. The thing is i want to buy a new card and was thinking about a 970 or 980 but does anybody know about when will the next generation of cards will be released from Nvidia also will they need a new motherboard( some sources say yes some say no).
The new cards from ATI are more futureproof or so most of the people say but they temd to have problems with drivers and don't really trust them. What are you're thought about the matter?any advice?

I guess we will find out about newest cards in March/April.

We have GDC in March and GPU Technology Conference in April. There is also Computex in late may but I think we will see cards sooner.

All of them are 100% fabricated.

No, nobody does.

The sources that say yes are clearly sources that haven't got a fucking clue what they're talking about.

No, you will not need a new motherboard, provided you're not running PCI-e 1.0.

Horsecrap.

Highly unlikely that we'll see anything sooner. The volume production hasn't been running long enough for any serious launch before the summer. If something launches in March/April, it'll be a paper launch or something low power.

Nvidia don't even have a Pascal chip in the wild for demo purposes yet; their new DrivePX platform, which will supposedly run on Pascal, was "shown" with Maxwell chips. If they were preparing to launch in less than 2 months, they would've had actual Pascal chips on display already.

I guess. I think I read that HBM2 only entered mass production recently if memory serves me right.
There is also GDDR5X but I haven't followed that closely.

Memory isn't the blocking factor though.

Nvidia quite simply don't have functional silicon yet. Or perhaps not even any silicon at all. If it was functional, it would've been on display, it's that simple. I really don't think we'll see anything real before the summer, it might even slip into Q3.

It's funny how everyone is so focused on Pascal and how amazing it might be, but right now all we know is that AMD has Polaris ready and working as of almost 2 months ago. The silence from Nvidia and lack of visible silicon in any way (functional or otherwise) is worrying if anything. They haven't even done their usual big mouth presentations ahead of time. Don't forget that Fermi was supposed to be the number 42, at least that's what they presented it as and what many people thought it would be...10 months before it finally "launched".

If AMDerp steps up their shit re: regular driver releases/"game ready" drivers I might consider getting a card from them again. They should, since I believe that most of the previous catalyst delays might have been related to the work they were doing for crimson, but still...

The thing is... I see too many times (in comparison) driver crashes on the PC next to me on the same games. Sure they get fixed eventually. But man was it a bad reminder of that shit.

As someone who has fairly recent experiences with both sides, I would say that when it comes to games, I didn't have any outstanding issues with either of them. Any driver crashes I had were related to overclocking.

With software overall however, I find Nvidia's to be quite sluggish. I like their features - they have AMD beat there for the most part - but their execution is often bad and unreliable. Control panel is slow and has some annoying quirks (although some of those seem to be fixed now at least) and GFE has a host of its own issues. Display management is also something that was noticeably faster with AMD even before the Crimson update.

With performance Nvidia probably has an edge, or at least an early lead, with all the money they can throw at their and game developers to stick the TWIMTBP program wherever possible, but that is mostly a question of resources not incompetence.
It worked out fine for me with AMD, because by the time I picked some game up all that early release noise was a thing of the past and I had no complaints to make Very Happy

I'm eagerly awaiting any news as well - this 4GB 770 is, unfortunately, starting to show its age a little bit, and it's the only thing holding my new system that I built in October back.

You tell yourself that. Cool Face

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."
