Tips from someone who has solved over 300 of its puzzles.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=193243163&postcount=491

Quote:
You will need a paper and pencil. You will.

I played Fez, SpaceChem, and plenty of other games where people claimed to feel compelled to write things down, and I got through them without it. The Witness is different.
The later puzzles in a series contain too much data and combine too many concepts for me to hold in my head at once, and it very often had to spill out onto paper, at which point they could be solved (fairly) easily.

Quote:
The Witness will be too hard for some people...

It just will. The puzzles are really hard
, and there's no pressure release valve. Other than just walking away for a little while - either to another part of the island, or in the real world. I absolutely adore the game, but if you aren't good at puzzle games, I can say with certainty that you will not have a good time here.

Are all the puzzles "fair," adhering to a standard internal logic? Yes. There's no cat hair moustaches on this island. But that doesn't guarantee that everyone will be able to solve every puzzle, if they just stick with it long enough. Just because they're fair doesn't mean everyone can find the solutions. Some will be too hard. This is not a game for everyone.

Come on. Sure as hell Im gonna try this game. But what were they thinking? 12+ hours with 1 puzzle mechanic? (and yeah -3 or -5 for exploring)

meh and meh....that is if they don't add some creativity to those puzzles.

Thanks you for sharing your insight. I was being deluded by reviewers who, you know, actually played the game.

Fps games are just about shooting bullets into enemies.

The base mechanic is just connecting the line, but it seems to be quite a lot of different mechanics utilizing this to make different kinds of varied mazes. I'm sure it's no game for instant gratification but if you enjoy brain puzzles it should prove to be stimulating.

I haven't watched much outside the giantbomb quicklook and I have been quite negative overall from what we knew before, but the way Blow seems to have utilized a seemingly simple premise into a deep and advanced puzzle game gets me quite interested.

The only problem is that I'm probably gonna get stuck in the game and since I'm dumb and have low patience I'll likely quit.

yeah, and with different great looking weapons, enemies, skills, ammo types, items its a great thing.
My main "meh" is that I don't see any variety here. And I really hope I will be proven wrong since the graphics and art style is really cool Smile And yeah raider is denuvo so......please be a good game Smile

Hypothetically this game should 100% be my saucy cup of tea, with the heavy focus on exploration and puzzles, but then again I've been disappointed so many times by supposedly mindblowing indie games (which ended up being pretentious-y hipster-y) that I really *must* see for myself Razz Fingers crossed

I don't think you'll be disappointed by this game. Especially if you liked The Talos Principle. The concept is similar, there is also a phiilosophical background which is more in the poetic side compared to TTP. Puzzles ofc will get repetitive after a while but wasn't it the same in TTP and Portal?
Still I don't think this one will be as good as TTP which imo is the best puzzle game ever created.

I love spacechem, portal, the talos principle and braid, they are pretty much my four favourite games.

so I am soooo hyped. sure it looks like only line puzzles, but then the game is getting rave reviews...by people I respect....so theres obviously way more behind it that only actually playing it can reveal.

bit annoyed its a 6pm launch here in the uk though...come on...its been january 26th for 11.5 hours already mr blow!!!

Not that many PC settings far as I can tell, at start you can select if it's to use VSync and Fullscreen and a preset that goes Default, High, Medium and Low and then in-game you have a few other control options plus you can enable subtitles.

EDIT:

EDIT: Settings at start and then in-game settings.

(Setting the desktop res to one offered via DSR or VSR should allow for downsampling, ReShade also works via ReShade64.dll as DXGI.dll though D3D11.dll should work as well, game offers both 32 and 64 bit exe files but both use DX11)

EDIT: Setting the screen resolution.
http://steamcommunity.com/app/210970/discussions/0/458606877334581395/

EDIT: Default = Ultra
(Then High, Medium and Finally Low)

EDIT: More screenshots.

(Default/Ultra preset instead of High, also forced a render resolution of 3840x2400)

EDIT: More tweaks.

Damn, I usually love puzzle games but the first half hour of this is tedious as fuck, all you do is solve endless sequences of repetitive smartphone-style "puzzles" (a la "Flow Free" or "Unblock Me", if you know what I mean).

I expected something more clever... is it really "100 hours" of this, or does it get more interesting later?
