Nothing special. It works just like it used to, but they nerfed the so called Beaglerush maneuver.
Beaglerush maneuver was maneuver where you put all of your team except 1 to overwatch in cover during concealment. Then you put that 1 guy standing next to enemy line of sight tile. When enemies turn comes, they will spot your guy who is not in cover, it will trigger the "enemies go to cover" sequence. Your overwatch will trigger, if aliens are still alive after overwatch it is your turn again as the enemies will always only go to cover on their first turn. Basically you got 1 overwatch trap followed by your turn to finish anyone left.
This was nerfed so that when enemy spots you from concealment, it won't necessarely go to cover. It will probably shoot the guy who they spotted.
I seem to miss how the change is a nerf. For me this looks like a drastic buff to overwatch.
Previously if you were unlucky all of your soldiers would shoot at the same time at one enemy. Now they shoot in turns and that way enable you to react to more than one enemy.
Also i didn't really saw gameplay videos of XCOM 2. But nice that you now have some kind of line of sight with enemies. Instead of they detecting you and running into cover at the same move, you now can stealth kill them.
Well, by the looks of the first part of the video above, it looked kind of random, but seeing the two missions the dev played, it looked like it was behaving like before.. On them i didnt spot the diferrence. Great gaming btw, 2 flawless missions (lots of grenades, and advanced weaponry though)
Edit: yes the line of sight being displayed is welcome.

Because now you can't cheese it by having everyone out of cover and essentially getting a free turn. Well you can, but you will likely have someone die if you try (at least early on).

Before nerf when enemys turn was triggered on enemy turn they ALWAYS went to cover and ended their turn like in EU/EW, missing their turn to shoot. After nerf, when they spot player character from CONCEALMENT they will either go to cover OR shoot the character they have spotted.
Before nerf players could exploit this mechanic by knowing that 100% of the time enemy will go to cover and miss their attack opportunity. After nerf it is not 100% certain that the will run to cover, they might shoot the character they spotted. You can still use this mechanic to your advantage, BUT you need good armor to the character you are going to use as a bait. It involves certain risk, when before nerf, it was totally riskless.
This only affects when player is in concealment, ie. first time player encounters enemy. After concealment has been broken, overwatch and turns will work same way they wok on EU/EW.
But overall i still find the new overwatch better. Like i mentioned before, because this time reaction shots happen sequentially. Instead of having bad luck and all your soldiers wasting overwatch on a single enemy for an overkill.

Yeah I'm replaying EU atm and the multiple overwatch shots on single enemies reminded me again of how really fucking annoying it was. Swapping to sequential fire is an excellent change for X2.
It's cheaper on gray market keysites if you were going for the vanilla edition. Oddly enough, the deluxe cheaper on GMG rather than the other keysites.
So I tried to order this via flyvpn from the Russian GMG about a week ago but it failed on the credit card authorization and I left it at that.
I am now trying to order it normally using that 27% discount code but I am running into a slight problem. When I go to GMG I can see everything listed as £'s (I livein the UK) but when I sign in to my account all the prices display as rubles. Does anyone have a fix they know of for this?
If you're buying a Russian key off GMG you're relying on the off chance that they get ROW keys, which may or may not happen. Talked to Bob about region lock markings on GMG but he told me that they're not always present so you cannot know for certain.

I tried ordering on the 20th from the post Bob put a couple of pages ago when it looked like all it needed was a VPN for activating so I probably would have missed your post considering it hadnt been posted at that time.
I am just trying to get my account back to £'s now so I can buy it normally. I've raised a ticket with GMG now to see if they can put it back

Took me 10 min to get a refund......so you shouldn't have a problem. Hopefully money will now show up on bank account in a few days

I never paid for it as my CC got declined thankfully. They've put my account back to £'s now and I have ordered the deluxe version with the 27% discount.
Just over a week to go
Replaying a "bit" of X-COM trying to get a fix before the next comes, and i remember now why i was bitching about no air war part on the coming one.. Now i see i was confounding the air part with the xenonauts air part, yep in X-COM theres really little user input. In xenonauts was done way better and more faithfully to the original, with vectoring various strike craft for various parts of the globe, strategic options in the dogfight, etc..

-Long War mod had contributors from every continent except Antarctica.
-Long War modding relied heavily on hex editing, then custom dev tool.
-Firaxis was aware of demo modding, legal team didn't let them give Long War script source.
-LWS and Firaxis got together super early, LWS had to sign NDA (before XCOM2 reveal?).
-LWS pitched 3 mods, free, on Steam Workshop on release date.
-LWS got lots of access to the game & builds, gave input on how to make the game more moddable.
-LWS mod 1: modded weapons - SMGs, can be used by AR using soldiers, models made by art school grad, give mobility bonus, make soldiers harder to detect
-LWS mod 2: modded enemies - Muton centurion (looks like krogan), leader, has new skills to buff/assist enemies, comes in later in the game
-AI can be modded, classes, skills
-LWS mod 3: new class - Leader soldier, can be obtained via Guerilla Tactics School, goes on top of class skill set, skills help other soldiers, only one leader per mission in most cases
-LWS doesn't know what the limits are for modding
-Multiple levels of mod functionality
-XCOM ModBuddy is the mod program we're going to use
-You can give Bradford's gun to people if you mod it into the game, might have suppression ability
-LWS mods have been localized into 10 languages
-XCOM ModBuddy has multiple ways to distribute mods (Steam, Zip files)
-XCOM 2 editor has tons of content, none of the game content can be used in it.
-There are packages dedicated to character customization.
-7000 props provided for map creation
-Particle effects can be edited
-2400 maps in XCOM 2, including cinematic maps, rooms in the Avenger
-Recommended beginning mods are simple
-Assets: 1900+ script files, 2400+ maps, 7000+ environments, 4000+ materials, 10,000+ textures, 2000+ sounds, 3000+ particle systems, 600+ character assets, 600+ animation sets
-Animals are particle effects
-Mod templates included
-Dev mode will be unlocked for modders: dev console via SDK, map debugger, LOS debuggers, fog of war debugger, marketing mode (no UI/icons, free camera movement)
-Firaxis used mod tools to solve bugs
-Hot seat mode allows you to control everything
-Replay mode comes with stock game, lets you replay events from your saves, works with SDK
-Modders can mod multiplayer, multiplayer supports more stuff from singleplayer
-3 types of maps: plots, parcels, PCPs
-Plots tell game where to load things, changing plot layouts creates new levels
-Parcels: small, medium, large, contain structures and are complicated to make
-PCPs (plot cover parcels): handle cover on roads
-Some missions are restricted to some plot types to ensure variety
-Plots are designed to contrast with each other
-Maps can be switched between biomes on the fly in the mod tools/game(?)
-XCOM 2's real time lighting means that you can make time based equipment
-Tactical Quick Launch mode is debug mode that can serve as skirmish mode (build maps, pick your soldiers, set the enemy forces)
-SDK documentation included
-XCOM 2 intro revealed officially
-Launch Gatecrasher is the trailer bit where the woman blows up the A
DVENT truck
I really hope good people will take use of all the provided modding tools.
When i take a look at Divinity Original Sin and ther said to be powerful editor, i am sad to still see so very little mods for it.

That's awesome. Total conversions/overhauls should be entirely possible. Just depends on people who actually want to commit to doing something big.

And yet I rather play the original than Xenonauts. The visual upgrade isn't good enough for me to make me favour it over the classic one.
I'm playing Long War atm and the grind of constant intercepts and UFO crash/landing site missions is seriously fucking monotonous. One thing about X2 that looks most promising to me is how it seems to change that dynamic a lot. It seems like the strategic layer is a lot more engaging/involved, and the tactical missions seem to be a little more diverse than clearing out UFOs 90% of the time. Even though the random missions do appear to draw from a pretty small pool of types (blow up a thing, hack a thing, escort a guy, kidnap/kill a guy), the randomised maps will hopefully reduce the repetitiveness that really plagues extended/repeated Enemy Unknown playthroughs.
the core game mechanic is very boring, , it was the randomness of the original 1994 game that gave it its replayability and fun, they cut out the fun cutting the randomness
i cringe everytime i see a alien patrol steal away 5 seconds of my life doing their run away in cover routine, djeeses what a chore, only to then die 1 second later to my rocket or grenade
all this scripted shit needs to fucking go and we need open random generated world maps and (ufos with random damage) ffs
Hmmm cheapest for this, that I can find, is 30€...any other offers?
30€ is cheapest for region free.
Like mentioned in this thread several times, you might try your luck with the russian GMG store (~18.3€). It's a gamble though, if you get a region restricted or region free key.
It shouldn't make any difference, as they've opened it up so that there is no longer any need to hack the EXE. And you can mod other Denuvo games, like DAI for instance. I would think the reason is that they don't want the negative publicity it would bring.
