Some transitions are worse than others, depends on the colors of the pixels. My old HDTV was pretty bad this way as well and I had something similar on my previous "budget" VA monitor.
I found that it seems to get a bit better if you let it work for a while and "warm up".
In any case it is often a choice between this (in various degrees) or the overshoot with slower VA displays. There is a reason why there isn't a whole lot of gaming grade VA monitors
@ killercrooker
You can play around with the colors. Anyway, you dont need to use these tests. Was just idea, in case you wanted something like this
At some point you should just fuck it. Every current technology has noticeable flaws, anyway. Even those LG OLEDs have some severe problems in certain areas currently.

True. I decided to get amva+ panel because I wanted to finally have great contrast, black levels and get rid of horrible ips glow. All of theses are overlooked ips flaws.
Every panel type has its drawbacks so it comes down to choosing what user wants. I care about viewing dark content in dark room more than I care about ghosting so I decided to give va a try.
Now, I've been fiddling with different settings adn I found out some interesting stuff.
Using photo mode instead of standard gets rid of red trail tint. Also using AMA premium gives good results and reduces smearing by a large margin. I can upload video later or tomorrow. Wasn't ama premium supposed to be bad ? I am changing it in osd while moving isaac around and premium just looks best.
Maybe I could've just got the iiyama but Benq Gw2470h is a very new monitor with barely any review and it looked promising. Wonder how it would stack against iiyama head to head.
What bothers me more is that badly finished bottom bezel I posted about on previous page. Any ideas what I could do to fix it?

On my BenQ display the AMA Premium mode gave the best blur reduction and got rid of the smearing for the most part, but at the cost of noticeable overshoot. I found it to be a lot more jarring than blurring, so I stuck with Standard.
Perhaps it's not noticeable in what you're testing, but generally speaking you will see white "halos" or outlines near moving objects. It kinda looks like some severe "edge enhancement" takes place with pixel transitions and on the whole it's more obvious than ghosting.
Interesting and good news that you got rid of it. Must be a problem with standard mode then.
AMA Premium caused bright overshoot trails, at least on the only page that reviewed the GW2470H. Maybe your monitor got a newer firmware with modified overdrive, or you have't noticed it yet
Head to head, maybe like this:
The iiyama does not have such a badly finished bezel , full ergonomics and somewhat faster response times/better overdrive. Max brightness is higher (292 vs. 232 cd/m²) It is larger by 0.2''.
BenQ has better OSD with more functions and probably a slightly higher calibrated contrast (by ~350:1). It might also overclock higher.
Otherwise they should be pretty much the same.

Thanks. Will see if I can notice that.
Anything else I should know about benq osd ?
Should I fiddle with low blue light, contrast and gamma(default is 3 and is too crushy) ?
I could still return it and get iiyama. But I am a bit lazy for that. And as for the bezel - I think there should be a diy fix
edit: also this
it is a thing on all va/amva screens yes?
That way or another. Va is the only panel type I never owned. Interesting new experience to say at least

At least on AMVA screens it's a thing, to some degree. I already told you the effect is there on the iiyama but clearly weaker than on the BenQ. I'm not sure if the 34'' panels with SVA matrix (like Breezer's) have the same effect though.
The 40'' 4k VA do not have this but they suffer from some other peculiar trailing problems and PWM artifacts.
If gamma 3 is too crushy but you like the deeper look, you could use the Calibrilla and lift the luminance for only the lower part of the gamma curve, so near black shades reappear.
IPS, TN, VA are completely different experiences. It's worth trying them out before they soon become obsolete and will be replaced by OLED and other technologies
You are making me want to return this benq and get iiyama
But ive still not tested this monitor enough to justify that.

Well since you managed to get rid of the red trailing I would just keep the BenQ if I were you.
The difference is not that huge, especially at higher refresh rates than 60hz.
The iiyama is also quite a bit more expensive in the shop you linked.
It is more expensive and I dont need rotating stand

I always saw this darkening when panning the camera as being the same smearing issue. The dark trails cover the white highlights, so the image appears to darken. At least it doesn't happen on faster panels (or with good overdrive function) that don't exhibit noticeable black trailing.
My 46" VA HDTV has no such issues nor does the FG2421. It's still a matter of fast pixel transitions and not a separate issue, as far as I can tell.
I believe its also a problem with slow pixel rise times.
Like they reach a certain luminance level quickly but then take too long for the final jump to full luminance.

Btw. Here is benq on left compared to my old ips on right. Camera exagerrated the effect but it gives You an idea why I am happy to get va anyway

Since The finish quality of the bezel is bad and the ghosting can be a bit much.
I am still considering if I should get same one or iiyama... although maybe I should f it. No bad pixels, screen looks good and iI can get another stand cheaply. But the damn lower bezel is probably not fixable

Returning Benq. THey had a chance and fucked it up with terrible quality control, bad stand and panel showin a bit too much ghosting(with red tint to it too...).
ordered Iiyama XB2483HSU-B2. Normally we would talka bout b1. B2 just now came out and I've ordered it from iiyama site. Will see how it is

All the tech is going into resolution and refresh rates... I would much rather have 60hz 1080p screen with perfect quality. But even oled have purple smear.
Anything larger than 24 inch on my desk would be too big. And for that size I dont need more than 1080p really.

Yeah what year.... They barely optimize some new games for 60fps. Let alone 4k 60
Still years to go

You'll get your wish dear KillerCrocker, soon it will go beyond just refresh rates and resolution
10-bit, wide color gamut, HDR - 4k UHD Blu-ray and newest televisions will adhere to that standard so it will probably come to games as well.
All this the AMD slides are hinting at already ("We need better pixels")
For this you're gonna need a lot of new hardware though
Huh? OLED has no pixel response problem. Im pretty sure LGs OLED TVs are perfect in this regard. The only detrimental effect that every display would suffer from is Sample & Hold blur, which can easily be addressed by standard techniques like black frames/strobing or high frame rates.
I don't know how accurate this thing is but sign me up for some of them
I think 35' curved 1440p with 144hz hdr is gonna be a sweet spot for me imo
Well, this thing is pretty accurate as far as showing bandwidth limitations go. It's just information on what kind of displays you can get with DP 1.3.
It's gonna be a while until we see proper HDR monitors, although apparently AMD expects some even this year.
I suppose that 4K $5K OLED from Dell technically qualifies
How does something like nvidia g-sync affect bandwidth? I mean, data can't be super well aligned anymore, since it is no longer in a fixed timing, right?
Ok got the IIYAMA XB2483HSU.
It is much better than benq even tho it's (newest b2 revision) is using the same panel as benq.
Calibrated to 2.2 gamma out of the box
much faster osd
has dvi...
and most importantly. NO GHOSTING at all at overdrive 3. On default overdrive off, it was ghosting with red trail just as benq. But on everdrive 3 there is practicaly no ghosting to be noticed. Very nice
and the build quality is very good

I forgot - have you tried the service menu, if it works? On B1 it works by holding ENTER+EXIT while turning monitor on, AUTO button to get in menu
The functions are useless but it shows the panel, firmware version, backlight on time and when it was made. Turn Off again to disable the menu.
And you should really try to overclock it.. If it works even only 72hz or 75hz are already worth it during normal usage, noticeable in games and get rid of 60hz stutter in films/tv.
