Fantastic! 116 minutes of brilliance. Acting, cinematography, music, everything is at top level. A depressing, dark look/study of government officials corruption.

Unfriended 6.5/10
That... actually kinda worked. Even though the characters are really easy to hate (that's the point of the movie), it relies on jump scares and the ending was just unnecessary it's a different kind of "boxed" film, and one that actually knows how to create and handle tension fairly well.
If anyone is willing to give it a shot my advice is to turn it off a bit after the knife scene and skip the predictable ending, movie would have worked much better if that last scene ended up with just that person alone and with all the weight of everything that happened upon them.

The Big Short - 8/10
Damn solid indeed. Part pseudo-documentary, part tragedy, part comedy (despite the subject not being exactly comedic), the result is certainly interesting.
If I had to find a flaw I'd say that sometimes the movie comes off as too flashy and disjointed, but it doesn't mean much since there's always entertainment thanks to the hectic Wall-Streetian pace (another hour and I could've died of heart attack), as well as the good acting.
Steve Carrel nails it, but the amazing metal Bale oddball is the one that steals the show

And the last thing he directed is a very good series Method, kind of Luther meets Dexter

The Martian - 7,5/10
I'm quite conflicted, despite enjoying it quite a lot, because the movie had the potential to be amazing, yet preferred to play safe and cater to a very broad audience in terms of (uber-straightforward) writing/narrative structure.
Some edgy dialogues here and there and the couple of cheap 'mini-twists' in the second half partially ruin the mood..but still! A pleasant ride overall, mainly thanks to Ridley Scott providing quality vistas and cinematography (he's always bloody good at that, it was the same in Prometheus - despite the writing there being unredeemable). Good ol' Matt Damon does his job fine as well, even though the character resembles more of smug Starlord than a stranded astronaut.

@ixi: I assume you didn't read the book? Watney is really much more entertaining in it and yeah he was actually portrayed quite well by Damon, but the direction was just too simple and they took out all the science of the movie and replaced it with too much emotions and too much shit happening on earth. If done right, the movie would've shown 50% more stuff happening on Mars. I'd honestly would've preferred if someone else would've directed this. Maybe Duncan Jones? His Moon was simply perfect and I think he would've captured The Martian very well too

Lots of people were expecting an extended cut of The Martian on Blu-ray but I think Scott only said "it would be cool" instead of "I'm doing it" but people were super convinced there was going to be one.. and there isn't.
TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."
"...like nothing else on television."
"a phenomenon."
"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."
"Like Nothing On Earth"

Correct, I watched the movie without knowing anything about it..and at some point I could really sense that it wasn't the smartest decision. Shame on me
Still enjoyable for what it was, but like you said (and it was indeed noticeable) some more depth and less 'conventional' hollycheese would have made the movie memorable.
I don't know who has the final word in such cases (or how much freedom Scott had to actually influence the narrative), but it almost seemed like someone "pushed" on a certain direction to primarily satisfy a younger audience, resulting in an experience that gets occasionally shallow (not too much thankfully). Duncan Jones would have been perfect, but he's knee deep in orcs at the moment xD

It was nice. Was expecting a bit more from this.
Best cold war spy movies are still the "OSS 117" though. |
I'd give it the same score and also say I was pleasantly surprised by how a reboot for the first time didn't actually suck
1 and 2 are still amazing.

Star Wars the new one - 7/10
Was alrite. Plot was pretty boring overall and that darth vader wannabe is one of the worst villains I've seen in a while but other then that it was enjoyable enough. Some of that x-wing vs tie fighter action was glorious.

Flight (2012) - 6/10.
+Good performance by Denzel.
-The entire Nicole plot/thing and gratuitous nude scenes were not even required. If anything, those scenes felt out of place/boring.
The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.

Well it was a shit movie night
Started with: Absolutely Anything, I had to turn it off after 30 mins. They couldn't find funny if their life depended on it... acting seemed to be in the same spot. Also: Felt like some school project mashing up: Bruce Almighty and Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy.
After that we put on: She's funny that way... Well that one didn't even last 15 minutes. I would assume the one with the weird name was trying to do a Brooklyn accent... but man was it atrocious. Enough to put me off. After that came the man with the crooked nose and he went into his famous blablablablabla mode... that was the moment I realised: don't bother.
Choice number 3: Hitmen: Agent 47 goes bananas
It was shite, but at this moment I just said: let's just get it over with. I didn't feel like putting something else on. 4/10
Quinn's character is a better hitman than Agent 47 was in this one

I think it was super safe all the way. I don't appreciate how they used that same plot and constantly kept going with those nostalgic one-liners. It's like certain scenes or characters were written just for some line. It got tedious. And that Kylie Ren, oh dear.
And apparently you can just learn to be a jedi knight all by yourself in a heartbeat.
Entertaining though, 6/10.

Chappie - 3/10 - worse than I expected.
Sicario - 7/10 - also worse than I expected, but I expected a lot. It wasn't one of those top movies that touch you in special places. I didn't feel anything for the corrupt mexican cop for example. I assume an emotional connection with him was the point of the side story. Emily Blunt's character was a distraction and the tag along black guy was a huge facepalm.
