Release Ctrl\Alt to fire When you hold it your spell becomes more powerful (if it's a High\Grand level spell)

Was playing as a sorcerer, my team is wiped, I'm nearly out of stamina and low on health. A enemy rushes in to finish me off, not knowing what i can do, I accidentally hit the trigger and grabbed it, then proceed to throw it off the ledge and killed it. How many RPGs let you pull that kind of shit?
This game really is all about the combat, everything that is not the DLC is mediocre or worst. But the combat is all it needs to be good. Too bad they made the sequel online, and not co-op.

Is grabbing enemies an ability you have to unlock? My guy is a huge fighter but can't even pick up a goblin. I can pick up rocks and NPC's though.

I didn't find the escort quest difficult on any playthrough. Perhaps if you play at night, or on Hard Mode. You should be able to just spam spells/melee on the enemies.
For me it's not about the story. . .at all. They could have just left the "main story" out of it (and gone the DS route which seems to get praised for having the barest of stories and leaving much to the users imagination) and you'd have basically monster hunter.
As for the combat being meh. . .absolutely disagree. If you are still in your starting vocation and haven't looked at specializing or mixing up your vocations you are wasting leveling.
The game can be completed as your starting class, but they do NOT want you to do that. Each vocation gets different upgrades to their stats at each level, so switching to a vocation to smooth out the areas you are lacking in is encouraged (as well as learning skills for use on another vocation).

No. How long you can hold them is though.

You can pick them up, but first you have to knock them down or catch them off guard

That must've been my problem. I kept trying to grab them from the front, or when they were running away.

This game soo much needed a roll key in combat.. In Souls was one, two or three incredible tough enemy's at a time, in here there are 15 bandits gangbanging with swords and raining arrows and you cant even at least roll out of danger

Forward Roll is a skill available in Dragon's Dogma
once you unlock it, striders, rangers and assassins can use it.

Level 10 and then someone in the capitol city will help you with that as I understood it.
(Tried heading there but the bridge leading there had a large gate which was locked so I tried going around and well the screenshot I posted yesterday showed how that ended when I ran into that creature after running a gauntlet through a small army of bandits.)
(Found some foggy forest as well but I didn't stay around long enough to explore it further, seemed to high level of a area for my current team and their crappy equipment.)

You also need 1000 skill points or whatever they are called.

@lolozaur
I changed my vocation when I was a lvl 10 mage. I didn't have 6-7 mage vocation levels.

Every version included fast travel, but the expansion included in the PC version (Dark Arisen) which was also already on consoles made it more easily accessible.
You essentially get these crystals you can put wherever you like and then you can subsequently fast travel there.
Originally you got very few and it was mostly a New Game + thing.
In the expansion you get more and you get em earlier I think.
Filthy casuals getting their way again!

To be precise: You get an "Eternal Ferrystone" (its in your storage, accessable via any Inn) its a version of the standard Ferrystone that doesnt expire on use.
