I think even just having the option to move around adds something. How much use it's gonna get depends on the content, but it certainly gives you more possibilities.
I could think of it as Ouclus but with something extra, and having more is certainly not a bad thing.

Of course, extra comes with extra cost, so that is another factor.

They did say that the screendoor effect was worse though.. what's the word on price for the Vive?

Another thing with the movement with Vive, does it integrate seamless with current controlls (i have a hard time thinking it does). if there's extra development for that part its hard to speculate how many games will use it, perhaps only Valve's own games. Another factor, will the new valve VR games even be compatible with Rift, might be bad idea (from a business standpoint) if they want to push their own unit. I'd hate if Valve did something absolutely spectacular and there isnt support for the Rift, and vice versa.

I hope these companies understands that its important to not compete against each others to a degree that it will hurt VR as a whole. We need a number of really great games for these units, if its ever going to succeed.

I imagine any good experience with movement would need to be designed for Vive specifically. I guess you could "map" some basic stuff, but that would be quite limiting.

As for closs-platform support, I could see it both ways. On one hand, all parties would be interested in that given the size of the market - more content for everybody means it's easier to sell units. More units means more motivation to create content. A common VR framework with certain vendor specific features could go a long way towards getting things going.

On the other hand, if you want to capture the market, now would be the time to do it and exclusive content would certainly help. With differences in features, your own exclusive APIs might be a more realistic solution as well.

Using analogies, I guess we would either be looking at an Xbox vs PlayStation situation or an AMD vs Nvidia one Very Happy

So yeah, hard to tell which way it's gonna go. So far Valve seemed interested in keeping things open with their hardware, but they are not alone in this one.

Vive looks much better now. Wonder about price. You guys know what can make vive absolute winner? Halflife 3 with HTC Vive preorders. That would kill every single Oculus.

Believable and relatable...Yep, sounds like Call of Duty

Yeah, and if they choose to compete like that (no cross-platform) it will also kill VR.

No. But you can expect an even higher price for the Vive. Though it seems to offer the more complete package.

An investment?

Aren't these things supposed to get obsolete in less than 2 years? With the VR scene "dynamically evolving" and shit?

Wouldnt surprise me if Vive + HL3 will be announced in February. Then when asked for Rift support they're gonna be very vague about it = win.

I don't have a useable ebay account due to them shafting me out of 300 quid (I refused to pay them after a seller dispute).
