I've only tried a cardboard so far and i couldn't stand having that thing strapped to my face for longer than a few minutes, it felt like looking through binoculars. So to anybody who tried both, how much better is the rift's fov compared to a cardboard?

Will the Vive compatible games also be Oculus compatible and vice versa?

It's gonna be shit if we have like 3 VR devices, each with its own support only.

And if not they'll be fast with standards. I would think they already are discussion some of it between them... maybe that's just me being naive though.

I'm pretty sure the tech will be amazaballs, but I'm not that convinced on it being a huge success from the get go. The power it needs and the costs stands in its way... and sure I haven't tried it... but many will be in the same position and not even have the initial thoughts that I have on the tech.

For now I see it mostly as an enthusiast gadget, if they give it proper time to establish itself and with games and media supporting it seriously than I can see it becoming more than what 3D/motion control games/... are.

The main thing I'm excited about, is sandbox design environments where you can create and build your own stuff, integrate certain 2D elements in the 3D world (like create a movie theater, an arcade room, etc.) and other creative elements where immersion plays an important role.

Looks like eye tracking will be a big thing in later iterations of VR headsets. Smile

This is pretty cool of them. I am under the assumption that these people already received a DK1 but could be wrong.

meh a free headset, bet its rather cheap anyways if they can give away 7500 units (or whatever it was).. i suggest spending a bit of money on a pair of good headphones, its really worth it.

well we can hope that the companies will not exploit this too much, as in releasing exlusive titles to make their units more appealing.. i would hate ending up with 2-3 VR headsets, been there with consoles already.

I think the keyword is neither headphones or headsets, since there are $5 headsets and $2000 headphones Wink They keyword is quality.

People saying this isn't like 3D TV's, a fad, when the main complaint at the time was people didn't want to wear glasses when watching 3D films

Laughing

Also, like 3D, VR headsets aren't something new. There are so many parallels between VR and 3D. But VR will succeed and 3D wont?

Don't get me wrong, I can't wait to order a VR headset. Just you people Laughing

my impression is that the people who are bashing 3D movies often are the ones with glasses that can't see 3D properly.. got 2 friends like that, sucks to go to the movies since they never wanna watch the 3D version, one of them can see a veeeeery slight 3D effect, the other one says it just looks crappier.

Of course I know what it is. It is taking a 3D screen and putting it on your face. The input movement of the screen is your head movement. And other input devices on your hands, depending on the game you are playing.
