I think it will mostly be an add-on feature and only the odd game will be designed around VR. I always said that this wouldn't be mass-market - why would it be? The games it works best on, are games that would typically get a console co-release and since consoles don't have VR glasses, this makes it a very niche product.

I mean.... I know it's not going to be so much better than dk2. There is no way. And I am done with vr for some time now... at least I am trying to convince myself

Expect the price to be around $400-500. I believe it was stated by Palmer that the consumer version will be more expensive than the DK2 ($350).

Why is everyone seemingly against VR? I don't understand the negativity, or is is just we're so used to failure or poor end results?
And don't forget Morpheus is coming out on PS4, so that's a console covered. Expect XBOX to have something - I wouldn't be too surprised to find the Rift could be compatible.
It is going to be epic, VR is not going to be just a fad. I firmly belive it will be as popular as the Walkman was. For those with PC's I mean. It's too big a deal to be a fad like 3DTV was.

WEll I had both dk1 and dk2... loved it but it got worse and its barely usable beyond gimmick thingy. It fogs up, cable is annoying, have huge price and requires enormously good rig.
It is amazing what it does but the horseblinds aspect of the vision and sweetspot in optics just ruins it. And not to mention screendoor effect but who knows how vive or cv1 handle that.
I belive it's the legitimate future but maybe with cv3 or 4. In 5 years... because now it wont take off. Its too expensive for how many drawbacks it have. Maybe some good games will overcome this.
I was one of the first who got dk1 and dk2.... and nobody I know in person had one. Still, the best experience was virtual cinema and doom3 on dk1 and half-life 2 on dk2 for me.
Once it's wireless, with higher fov, better resolution and easier to put on/center for sweet spot + not fogging up... then I am back in.

To me VR-devices for games are just a very expensive toy, for which i would not pay more than 300€.
As i personally don't see much use for it in most "mainstream" games, even if they officially supported it. Best example are first person shooters. Sure it looks awesome, running around in the game world. But how good are controls and especially the aiming really?
I watched some video of one fucker playing Fallout 4 that way. It looked sad.
Also it seems to early to buy a device just now. There are several different projects currently going on. And i bet, in the near future more competion will rise - resulting in better and probably cheaper devices.

VR isn't going to make sense unless you physically try it.

Sadly i had no chance yet to try one of those devices myself. Only watched videos of others.
And i specifically said "VR-devices for games" are toys IMO.
VR in the medical or car industry are no toys, and can really help the people with their work.

Aiming is 100x times better... you should try for example HL2 (which has proper support).
You aim with the mouse (your hand) and you look with your head, can't get more natural.. Going back to the locked look/aim standard is very hard and feels robotic and extremely unnatural. There's also TrackIR, but in 3D the whole looking around part is just so much better, in 3D you can move your head and eyes and not loose focus.

i thought the same way until i tried the rift at the gamescom, now i am a believer.
its one of those things that have to be felt and experienced, its way way more than a shitty gimmick like 3d tv.

VR is very nice but once you see the pixels on the panel, all immersion is lost, but still way more cooler than standard 3D shit.

Time to let the dust settle first, with vive etc and others around it would be best to see if the whole thing kicks off and if it does then in 12mnths this stuff will drop in price and one will be able to get a better view on which gear to buy.
