The redemption of Anakin was terrible. He was a murderer and a traitor, and he gets the happy ending, force ghosting next to Obi Wan, wtf... I don't care if he saw the light at the end, he did some messed up shit in his life and it cheapens the concept of the force ghosts. The damage has already been done through the special editions of the old trilogy.

... also so stupid that it is the "young" version of him that gets ghosted... who wants young Anakin, the teenage dude that hates sand to be their spiritual force guide, lol. The real good guys get punished for staying light side by being old-person ghosts. Very Happy You need a life of light side heroics, not just one single redeeming moment where Vader saves Luke. In any case it was the Old Anakin/Vader who saved Luke. The young Anakin is a complete asshole.

I don't know about the person behind the twitter account but I've been suggested to check it out by someone who loves the movie and one of his favorite aspects of it was Kylo. He certainly doesn't follow the account to laugh at the character. He laughs with it sure - it's a parody account - because "it's like something Kylo, one of best aspects of the movie, would really say!".

Man, it's not a religious thing. It's something like ascension where it depends on the persons state of mind when he dies.

Yeah to this day since 2005 I never frick'n understood why they changed the death of Anakin to represent the more modern actor. Complete derp to me. You become a phantom BASED ON YOUR LAST LOOK IN DEATH.. not in.. distant childhood wtf?!?!? Seems like it became "pandering" to the young audience at the time. Mad

Because Lucas wanted to force some kind of continuity between the two trilogies (even when his newer movies do the exact opposite by introducing contradictions) with no regard of what makes sense or if it's aesthetically pleasing or whatever (Seeing the outtake of Christensen from some random ep3 scene making a creepy face being digitally imposed over the original actor is NOT aesthetically pleasing, that's for sure. At least give him a call to come over for an hour and shoot new proper footage of him FFS!).

We've seen this many times now. Audiences have been laughing at the NOOOOOOOOO of Darth Vader at the end of ep3 for years (it's probably the second most well known Star Wars meme after "Han shot first", no?) and what does Lucas do for the latest release of the movies? He puts a NOOOOOOOOO at the end of ep6 as well to force a connection.

George Lucas is like: "Are you not entertained!??" Very Happy

Anyway... many think Ep 8 director Rian Johnson is a better director than JJ. JJ will be a producer. I think Johnson will be more free of the nostalgia requirement in EP8, to be able to make more interesting turns.

It's a bit sad that Kylo Ren seems to be such a controversial character. I think he was the best part of the movie. A villain who is very much human and emotionally unstable instead of being a generic stone-cold badass, with a great potential for character development. And I felt that Driver nailed the role. Would be cool if instead of getting a redemption arc he just continued to fall deeper and deeper into darkness.

Couldn't agree more, I really liked it that they 'unmasked' him so to speak. And yeah, watching him fall deeper into madness would be ace. ^_^

Ep8:

Kylo will continue falling to the darkness while training under Snoke.
Rey will train under Luke.

They fight. Rey learns some shocking truth (a la "I am your father") she wasn't expecting and turns against the Jedi / Luke / whatever.

Ep9:

Kylo will unexpectedly help bring her back into the light while sacrificing himself in the third act. Rey lives.

edit Oh yeah and Finn keeps simping her.

I thought they were paid quite a low salary compared to the industry's standard (both $600k), for such roles in such a franchise.

Yeah but this is pretty common. They basically consider it a privilege to be allowed to be in a major movie like that. Unless you're an established actor, you're unlikely to get paid much if you enter a huge franchise like that. Also, this opens the door to many MANY paid events as well not to mention big parts in other big movies that may pay a lot better.

Yep, they didn't sign up for the first paycheck. They're not gonna be replaced by new actors.

Both Boyega and Ridley are gonna get an easy 7 figure salary on the 2nd movie and probably a high 7 or even low 8 figure salary by the 3rd movie.

Yes, if they asked for too much, casting would just select the #2 audition for any part, simplez. I can only imagine it being a very stressful / pressured situation where the casting people have all the power. If you're a relative unknown, (not Boyega/Driver) like Ridley, you just have to accept it mainly because you've won the lottery just to be in a movie franchise this big - imagine like a jackpot of landing a leading role, too. Boyega said he botched the audition by forgetting lines, but got the part anyway.

My thoughts go to Christensen who got the Anakin part, the movie wasn't too good by anyone's standards, and everybody dislikes him because of it, hehe. At least he got paid.

Young Anakin (Lloyd) got bullied a lot because of his involvement with the prequels, too. So yeah, getting the "you ruined my childhood" comments on the street gets to you as the years go by... he probably didn't get paid that much either, but who knows.

i just watched the movie and though it was ok. certainly not $1Billion type movie. i felt like it was a rehash of the old movie just rewritten with new characters, like they didn't really try to change much.

i feel like the only reason it got to $1b is cause of the nostalgia it carries from the old movies, and its fanbase, then it was just overhyped with every single tv commercial being about the movie. (i saw at least 5 different car mfg commercials starwars themed)

It's not just their salary, they also got a % of the revenue...
They'll end up with more than some of the better actors on other movies, don't you worry! Razz

Edit: Oh yes, let's not forget the bonuses they get from it reaching 1 billion!

It was a very 'safe' movie, yes. I don't think EP8 will do as well as EP7 in ticket sales.

Thanks to the expanded international markets and the higher cost of 3D tickets, 1 billion is not that special these days, I mean Skyfall crossed it and it was just another James Bond movie, Furious 7 crossed it and it's just another F&F movie. What's special is how quickly SW crossed it.

And it is indeed for the reasons you said plus there isn't any other really big blockbuster playing in cinemas these Christmas. No LotR, Hobbit, Transformers, something.
