Looking to purchase Internal HDD this fits in budget also some said 3TB HDD is less prone to failures compared to 2TB , had horror stories with WD

A bigger HDD "might" cause more problems because it has more disks built in.
But i never heard or read about any reports, that would point HDD failures to its storage size.

I am currently using relative cheap HDDs from Seagate and Toshiba in 2 and 3 TB sizes. No problems since over a year.

So go for the 3TB, if you need the storage.

The newer ones don't use that many platters do they? Not really sure what the current density or what it's called is at but 4tb and below is probably pretty good. Smile
(HDD sizes are expected to exceed 10 Tb the next year or so with the first 8 Tb models having started to appear although I don't know if they use a lot of smaller size platters or fewer and higher density.)

EDIT: Mostly using WD myself with no problems on any of them so far, one of the earlier Samsung F series HDD's I was using failed a few months ago but it was almost 8 years old.

They all fail and are of similar quality.
It's just luck of the draw to be honest. Most drives will last a many years with no problems under normal use.
Just don't drop them... Razz

Buying HDDs is a really difficult tas and the more you compare them and read about them online, the more difficult it gets.

Every brand and model has issues if you read about them. Then again, any HDD can hold for years without failure. I've practically only had Samsung and WD and was pretty lucky so far.

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

I own two of that same model. One from years ago and a second one I just bought a month ago. Both are running great! I ran seatools on both (long test) and both drives passed. It does have a higher rate of failure, but for the price (they paid me $15 after rebates), I had to buy it..
