|
 |
Should I?
Currently running 3570K @ 5GHz + Z77 OC Formula with 4x4GB DDR3.
And R9 390 AMD MASTERRACE!11!!11111111
The new Skylakes seem to give 20%+ FPS improvements in games already so I'm thinking they might be a worthwhile upgrade finaly.
But what Mobo to get? Will propably go for 2800MHz or 3000MHz RAM as the cost isn't that different to 2133MHz and there seems to be some difference in performance going up from 2133MHz, not all the way to 2800 or 3000 but more doesn't hurt right?
Also the new CPUs having BCLK unlimited by other factors and being viable to overclock, I might be able to save some bucks going for non-K CPU cause they will overclock just fine aswell?
Thoughts on what mobo/cpu to get are welcome. I plan on pushing the CPU to it's limits so a 50€ mobo won't exactly do it.
Here I am hoping AsRock has improved their Z170 boards around the ~150€ mark with better PWM than the Z77 series had around that price...
Or should I go for some other manufacturer? Had AsRock boards since P67 and still happy with em.

Wait for the official sand-nigger edition as it's more up your alley.

I'd say no. Let DDR4 mature for a bit, and wait and see if AMD's Zen is any good. If the latter isn't a performer, grab an Intel if the performance jump will be in akin to what sandy bridge was compared to lynnfield.

Zen is Q4 2016 if I'm not mistaken, that is like a year from now, and for some reason I doubt AMD will be pulling any miracles in the CPU department.

Yep. Getting a 970 or 980 would increase the performance for you much more, than some CPU upgrade.

so you are fan of slow gfx cards and a fan of overpriced upgrades with almost no fps increase at all. maybe buy an xbox then.

I'm running a 3570K @ 4.5Ghz and occasionaly ask myself the same question.
But since no game I ever played has been running below acceptable FPS because of my CPU, I simply dont need an upgrade.
Do you need an upgrade? Well there is your answer.
I'll probably upgrade to some 8 core Intel or Zen somwhere in 2016 for the heck of it. But 'll certainly not upgrade to another Quad before that.
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

I guess if you ask it like "Do you need" then propably no.
Do I want? Not sure yet.
I mean 5GHz 3570K is ok~ish still.
Got too much money at hands... Maybe I'll buy some SSD instead, this 120GB is not that big these days...

I done a tiny upgrade this year, i7490k z97 pro gamer board and some 1866mhz ram. Leaving amd products behind it seems for good now.

Only real upgrade after i5/i7 sb or later is X99 setup, if you must "upgrade" then go for skylake i7. Im personally waiting new LGA2011-v3 cpu's. My gf has my old 2700k setup @ 5ghz, and i cannot see any difference with it compared to my haswell setup if i use 980ti on both systems in gaming.
