Will this game, at finished status, still have cars that explode by hitting them? Laughing

I absolutely fucking LOVED Mafia 1. One of the best games I ever played. I somewhat liked part II, but this shit looks bad...

By the end of the video, the guy from Hangar 13 confirms the retarded explosions is for the gamplay demo only.

Not that bad, but 6000 years away from the original game (Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven). Smile

The original was great because the movement, gunplay, driving, story, voice acting, semi-realistic cars and guns .... made it a serious oldschool game and not just some GTA clone. There were repercussions to your actions, unlike GTA. And it was harder to handle car-wise and gun-wise, unlike GTA. I think it also had fuel consumption.

And the city was so believable as well, it also had an extra sandbox style mode that I was playing after finishing the game, racing some crazy rocket-like contraptions Laughing Very Happy

Then Mafia 2 took me by the hand and walked through a semi-interesting story.

And, this ... went full derp it seems.

Since Mafia II I learned not to expect anything like 1, so far I can live with that.

This song randomly started playing in my head today, as it seems to do every once in a while. I haven't played the game in over a decade Laughing

You're welcome.

Now I want to replay it.

Right I forgot to watch that video yesterday... wondering if my subconscious made me forget it! Razz

Edit: Meh, halfway in to the video and I already lost interest. Seems they went worse from the second game... I don't see much improvement. For some reason it actually reminds me of Hitman Abortion. Sad

Iso or highly discount it will be.

This looks cookie-cutter.

Cover system? Check
Contextual kills? Check
Gruff, muscular lead? Check
Obligatory stealth section? Check
Regenerating health? Check
Over the top driving and explosions? Check and check

What a far cry from Mafia 1 with its more down to earth, old school mob tale where you actually drove under the speed limit to avoid unnecessary conflicts with the police.

Not different, Inter, but dumbed down, streamlined and having a shallow / unremarkable story line. Glorified gameplay in a Hollywood style, explosions and a superman protagonist add to this presumed "failed" attempt to call it a sequel.

In two of the first scenes / missions in Mafia (1), the player / protagonist was not a superman, he was a simple cab driver that HAD to run away to save his life - in 2 occasions! This created a much tighter relation with the character. It made him more... human, frail, more real... The rest of the game exploited much this aspect. That's part of what made the game memorable.

I could go on, but no point, I guess. Smile

yep pretty much the insane cuts of the original script in M2 which imo completely broke the story was a thing what ruined M2 for me

He did say at the end of the gameplay vid that the explosions etc are bumped up for the demo, and not every car is gonna explode in the game if you bump into them. But who can trust what ppl say about their games anymore Razz

Well Interactive... You would expext that game bearing mafia name is similiar to previous games.
Its like if terminator 2 was a vin diesel movie about baby sitting.

If its nothing like previous games, why call it mafia. The name inclines something to go with it

Indeed, a bit toned down explosions will ensure the expected quality of the game, innit? Wink

Starting to think that Lincoln is Joe's son

This actually makes sense. Mixed race and doesn't know his father, but somehow fall in with Vito, or Vito falls in with him. Setting up for a big reveal about who his real father is at some point in the game.

New screenshots from GDC. Terrible textures but the overall style looks nice. Shame it's not Mafia.. in... well.. any sense of the word.

I hate it.
Why wouldnt they just release Mafia 1 on steam. Remastered a bit to work on modern systems and that's all I need of Mafia franchise

Yup, as far as I know the original Mafia should work well, with behar's widescreen fix which includes draw distance tweaks too. It's all you need really, to enjoy the game in its original yet 'modernized' form. Razz
