Why, did anyone finish the game? Did anyone overcome the shitty "guess where the enemy will be when the spell hits" combat?

http://www.dsogaming.com/news/pillars-of-eternity-the-white-march-part-2-is-coming-in-late-january-2016/
Quote:
Obsidian Entertainment and Paradox Interactive announced today that The White March – Part 2, the second expansion to Pillars of Eternity, will be released late January 2016.

As the press release reads, The White March – Part 2 adds new content to the Pillars of Eternity universe, including new quests, new abilities, and a new companion: Meneha, the Barbarian.

The expansion also offers players a higher level cap, and the new “Story Time” mode, letting players experience the incredible narrative of Pillars of Eternity at a faster pace.

Directed by Josh Sawyer, Game Director of Fallout: New Vegas and Pillars of Eternity, The White March – Part 2 features an expertly crafted story from Eric Fenstermaker, lead writer of Pillars of Eternity and the co-writer of South Park: The Stick of Truth, and Carrie Patel, author of the Recoletta series and writer on the original Pillars of Eternity.

A far better rpg than the witcher in fact, which is actually an action-adventure. It barely has any traces of rpg, any systems in place. You have a fixed character, no classes, no large dialogue tree, few abilities or stats. Real time hack n slash combat. It's an action adventure. Thats not to say its not a fenomenal game and deserving of all the praise, it is. It's just not an rpg

Black Ops 2 has choices, stats and customization. Sounds like an RPG to me!

PoE is a shitty choice, regardless. Not that you should expect anything different from RPS, as it is a horrible site.

You're right, it's not if it's just about one or two of those. But witcher lacks almost everything. I literally can't see the game as an rpg, it practically screams to me action-adventure. Truth is, the term rpg has never been more redundant than it is today. You have the term slaped to every single game today. So, who knows. Still, Underrail comes out in a few days. That game is rpg personified. If you'll play that game you'll manipulate so many layers of systems and builds you'll think Fallout 4 is twitch shooter in comparison.

I wouldn't say the story is shit. But it's like they ejaculated prematurely when it came to delivering the story. One of the reasons why I haven't replayed this yet. If it was good and if there were other ways / branches (choose a faction but that choice is moot because lol end of act 2) then maybe. But the combat system isn't really something that makes me want to play. Dunno why they decided to spend so much time tweaking the combat system and balancing it and what not. Maybe spend that budget on more content to flesh out the story instead of just cumming on our faces after act 2 and going to sleep.

each to his own i guess to me all 3 witchers feel much more RPG than all the BiowarEA titles since DA:O

but yeah the terms osi used as "checklist feature" nowadays

Never played this one, but I'd like to. Can't buy at the moment tho...

Which version/pack should I get for the full experience? As in: with all DLC, fully patched etc?

edit: Royal Edition I guess? Cool

The first part of the expansion is out already and the second one is supposed to come out early next year so your best bet is to wait, unless you don't not mind playing the expansion story until the end.

Those games are hardly comparable.

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

Anything above Hero Edition comes with essentially unimportant stuff (OST which you can find on YouTube, some concept art PDFs and stuff), so just buy Hero Edition and DLC season pass.
