Hello men, I'm in need of the Hump expertise, I'm thinking about getting a headset so that I can finally talk when playing online games like Red Orchestra 2 with a friend. Since i'm completely hopeless in this hardware field I was wondering what would be a relatively decent headset or microphone to purchase. I'm not looking for anything mega quality, something perhaps that doesn't go over the price point of £50 or so.

Kingston HyperX Cloud are the ones some PRO csgo players use and i read some nice thing about them for the price range they are.

The Cloud II version i think they are the same but with USB connection

And if you just want a microphone i know a lot of people with this and it works pretty decent.

If you have a decent pair of headphones already, get the Zalman mic above or www.modmic.com - do not spend money on any headset if you have a decent set of cans already. Complete waste of money, since most headsets are shit. The few that aren't cost at least 3-4 times as much as you're looking to pay.

If you don't have headphones already, I wouldn't spend any money on the HyperX. It's not as good as a pair of headphones in the same price range. The headphone part of it is worth 20 quid at best and the mic is not good enough to warrant the rest of the price.

There's only one headset that I can truly recommend for what it costs, which is this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Creative-Fatal1ty-Detachable-Noise-cancelling-Microphone/dp/B000P5VR16

It's one of those one-in-a-million products, it just hits the mark spot on for what it costs. It's a little bass-heavy, but the mic is fantastic for such a low price. It's old, but it's still around. Build quality is good for the most part, it's just the inline controls that tend to do weird things after a while. The volume wheel in particular tends to cause the sound to crackle when you turn it, but as long as you leave it alone it has no effect beyond that.

If you're open to just getting headphones, you have plenty of options as well. An extreme budget option like Sennheiser's HD201 (also one of those rare products that is priced exactly where it should be) will already sound on par with something like the HyperX. At the upper end of your range you'll find things like the Superlux HD-668B, which is way better than any headset in this range. Somewhere in between there'll be Superlux' HD681 as well.

I ended up with a Sennheiser HD419 at around 40€

I'm quite happy with the balance of the sound, doesn't have the 'boosted' bass feeling which I never liked. That being said: comes with a horrible thin cable.
You can still find better ones in that price range like Werelds said. Some just come together perfectly in the price, quality, comfort triangle.

I can't comment on which those would be, I had to get a replacement fast so I went with one I tried and liked with some minor research into them.

Fatality headphones recommended? I would write the opposite, dont buy them. I had those for barely a year, first the cable inside headphone started to cause one of headphones go silent, when you moved it and found "right " position both had sound for some time and then you repeat. The cable is crap rubber and started to lets call it roll meaning you had to straighten it all the time. Finally one headphone refused to play at all and I threw it away.

I don't think I want to know what you did to yours Razz

I don't use mine anymore, but I tested it a while ago and it still works just fine. It must be going on 7 or 8 years old now, of which I actively used it for 3-4 years.

Thanks guys, appreciate the input. I don't have separate headphones at all or any other peripheral devices to attach standalone mics onto. I had spotted that fatality one on amazon before and bookmarked it as it seemed like a good deal, I'll probably take werelds advice and go ahead with it, of course now I'm worried about it suddenly breaking down, but even a years worth of use from it for a bit of team chat in gaming would be worth the £25. Thanks my humper men.
