Just tested the new AMD Drivers, works wonders but of course the visual glitches are there now. If they get that going okay I should be good.

harry: do you get occasional flickering? It's like the lighting itself is flickering, screen becoming slightly brighter, then returning to the previous brightness? I have that on my 290 on the Drivers released yesterday.

It can depend on the game, Steam's overlay has compatibility for D3D9, OpenGL, D3D10, D3D11 and the various .1 and .2 extensions to some of them and depending on how the game works injecting a overlay can be problematic as well.
(RTSS has numerous compatibility profiles for this purpose but the author can't test every game though he often updates them between releases based on user reports such as recently fixing compatibility with RTSS and Batman: Arkham Knight when one of the GeForce GameWorks effects was enabled.) |
Can you share your RTSS settings? Disabled overlay but it still wont show.

Beat a couple NFO guys already that picked up and beat me again, kind of fun. And it can be turned off (by a simple method).

See you did your homework all by yourself.
For what it's worth I can confirm it's no DRM.
Comparing it to FADE is a good comparison, although the biggest difference here is you cannot even boot up the game, that's all.
I can understand dev want to protect their game even from boot up, can't blame them.
Obviously it's better when it's free for us but for now, no choice !

How is it not a DRM when it limits you how many times you can activate the game (among other things)?

Regarding the shadow flickering it seems to come and go. Just played for a little over an hour (with the older driver) and had no flickering. And then it happened again. I'll play more later and see what's what.
Oh and using borderless and limiting the FPS to 60 with rivatuner seems to be the most consintent setup for me FPS wise.

I see that it's hard for people here to understand that it's no DRM.
Maybe this will make you understand it better :
IIRC FIFA 16 (or was it 15) demo had Denuvo, yet there was no activation nor limit and what not.
So to your definition, it would mean it's no DRM I guess.
But if you try to temper with the executable, the game won't work even if you manage to crack the original DRM (Steam, Origin, and what not).
That's why it's called an anti temper solution. DRM aren't directely an anti temper solution at all, there are games or apps that are using DRM and that can be cracked with a simple 1 byte patch by tempering the executable. Sadly for them, they aren't protected by an anti temper solution like Denuvo, so they are cracked and work fine.
That's what is Denuvo. Most likely if you strip away Denuvo, the game itself barely has any solid protection and can be then cracked in 1sec.

cyclonefr is correct. Basically, denuvo just makes code very hard to modify without making it broken/unable to run.
What that code (i.e, the DRM) actually DOES is completely unrelated to denuvo. All the restrictions/policies implemented by it are its own. Denuvo just makes them very difficult to "disrupt".
To be fair, it's much less invasive than other solutions we've had in the past (Starforce, etc.) that installed unsecure drivers and other shit at kernel-level to work properly, or limited number of activations artificially. I think most people's grudges with denuvo simply come from the fact that they're butthurt at how effective it is.
Still, I'd like to know the actual performance impact of denuvo. It's probably low, since it's entirely on the CPU while games' performance is usually limited by the GPU, but it would still be nice to see some actual benchmarks.
