|
 |
Code: | http://www.hostelfilm.com/ |
Presented by genre master Quentin Tarantino and taking a much more macabre tone than did Eli Roth's feature debut CABIN FEVER, HOSTEL is an amalgamation of many of terrifying things about human nature and the world at large, culled from lots of pulpy-but-true stories of international organized crime, human trafficking, and sex tourism. Relentlessly graphic and deeply disturbing, the film is rife with explicit sex and brutal violence that may delight hard core genre fans, and prove difficult to stomach for general audiences.

No, no, no man. The point of both movies is the fact that this man has a point. It's a moral wakeup call. And I can fucking sympathize.
If you look at it and only see this:
a) Some psycho who just wants to kill a bunch of people, and then proceeds to ...
b) Kill everyone using meticulous planning, ending up in a lot of gore
You've failed to use one vital part of your being (just maybe you don't have it):
1) A brain.
Look at: Motive, reasoning, method, technique used.
Also, it takes a bit of perception to figure this one out. I believe most people who watch it miss a lot out, because they're spoilt by Hollywood-movies making shit blatantly obvious: "Soon to the point of putting up red arrows in their movies with subtexts saying: "BAD GUY"", because people who generally enjoy mainstream Hollywood movies are getting more and more retarded by every new movie.
This is btw. why so many stupid fucking Americans couldn't grasp MEMENTO, and asked for a re-cut, that would "make sense".
Unfortunately this is a disease that's spreading... not only affecting U.S. Residents, but people who get brainwashed with the Hollywood mainstream way of laying things out.
But stupid people want things to be predictable, comfortable, and simple. I guess.
Served like a fucking fast-food meal, as simple as possible, and dotted out so realization only requires as little -thinking- as possible from the viewer.
For GOD help, thinking is bad.
Just watch, be instructed, obey. Live in little happy La-la land.
GEORGE W. BUSH WANTS YOU TO KILL YOURSELF!
IF YOU DON'T DO IT, YOU'RE A PACIFIST!
DIE FOR YOUR NATION (even though you're not american) NOW!
Yees master! Yes!
They say jump, you say: "how high?"
You're braindead, you've got a fucking bullet in the head.
Yes, yes I'm back.
Somewhat.

You tell me that millions went to the cinema because of their friends stated that it was a film about a "moral wake-up call"? nigga please...
I know what jigsaw is doing in both film. Since thats the core of the movie and what should really drives it but it simply doesnt... He could be using lethal gas to kill all of them but that would simply be to boring...
When audience returned home to their friend I really doubt that they would say: " Wow look hes killing people because of moral issues towards life!"
no.
They would probably (with eager) tell how Cary elwes removes his foot or when that chinese dude get a bucket of shots from head to toe...

I thought the whole point of SAW was that the psycho dude was trying to get people to realise the value of life and health? It's not as if that message is subtle.

Wow, overanalyzing a bad movie with few artistic merits followed up by an unwarranted and over-the-top diatribe about the evils of Bush. Let me guess, you're a big fan of the Matrix movies as well?

@Fisk
"This is btw. why so many stupid fucking Americans couldn't grasp MEMENTO, and asked for a re-cut, that would "make sense". "
Like you would actually know? You're just a guy who follows the main stream of assholes - "the zamericans are stupid, curse em" Do you know why they hate the americans? Because the americans are powerful...very powerful... and you don't recieve power for being stupid...
NEWSFLASH: There are 52 States in USA, so when you say "americans" you tend to genarlise the ENTIRE population which is impossible... 1 state is almost a land of it's own.
And you're fight against bush is getting old... Let me guess you're a fucking social democrate ,right?
I would pick bush any day over Goran *pig* Persson...if you can't see what they've done with the laber program you're pretty much fucked up of bullshit.
Oh let me pull my self down to your level: FUCK the stupid swedes for allowing a piss poor politician like Goran Persson having full power...
I liked SAW II and I did get the message, just beacuse someone else has a different view doesn't mean they are "stupid"

No. I didn't tell you that. You need to work on your understanding-skills.

He challenges their survival instinct... How badly do they want to survive? A person that has a strong will to live, and doesn't easily surrender their life, deserves it. I think it's a well made point in a world where fucking goth-wannabes kill themselves for not getting enough cereal.

And why would I give the slightest fuck what the stupid masses think or say?
I never argued that people understood this movie, in fact, this thread pretty much proves my point.

Yes. I would.
Though, I agree it's an inductive argument. It's still valid.

Read up on Feldman's book "Reason & Argument", so you can understand my point in the proper context. Particularly the difference between inductive and deductive arguments.

No, no, I didn't think they were either. But fact is, a majority of the viewers fail to get it.
And when people don't get it, they think something is bad.
[HOLLYWOOD SIGN: COMING (HARD TO GRASP) ANALOGY]
For instance; what do you think the majority of the people that have read Wittgenstein, think about Wittgenstein?
(Fact) They think he's just some fool mathematician, with too many words for his own good.
[END OF HOLLYWOOD SIGN: PROCEED WITH DROOLING (AGAIN) NOW]
My point here, really, is that most people are stupid. Only, it's much easier to provoke americans into that statement, for they are more sensitive to it.
(I wonder why that is)

Thank you!
That is what i am constantly trying to tell my friends.
If there´s one thing i hate is when you see a good movie, decide to show your friends, and they don´t pay their 100% attention to the movie. And when it´s over, they say it wasn´t that good... That´s why when i show my friends a movie nowadays, I tell them to stfu during the movie.
I also know people who like Saw just for the gore and it´s "disgusting-factor". It´s not a good movie, but it does make a very good point about todays peoples "laid-back"-view of life, where many people take almost everything for granted.

People who watch the SAW movies just for the gore deserve to have their eyes carved out so that they can never watch a movie again.

No no. It really is an excellent flick. We just aren't cut out for a thinking man's movie like SAW.
Beyond the many, many layers of bad acting and horrendous writing, there are scores of hidden allegories about human nature, philosophical ponderings about religion and, of course, definite answers as to why Bush shouldn't have won the last election and why oil is peaking. It's deep, dude! We're talking Matrix-deep here.

indiana: Could your responses be more predictable.
No wait, not only did you fail to realize that I didn't say it's "a good movie", but that I pointed out that viewers missed the point of it.
You didn't only miss the point of the movie, but you missed the point of my post... again, that must be some sort of record.
indiana wrote: | What point might that be? |
Since it really doesn't matter how many times I will say it to you, it's beyond futile to explain it even more clearly once more. You may however delude yourself with further cognitive excuses to protect your ego, such as: "I don't have any emo glasses".

Well since we're talking about the ignorance of movie goers I'll tell some stories.
Foreign movies:
When I was working (I work at a movie theatre for those who don't know) I watching the beginning of Kung Fu Hustle and this lady walks in (of course 10 min into the film) and goes "It's not in English?!?" and I said no but there's subtitles. She walks out of the theatre.
Black and white movies:
Also while working this couple was looking at movies to see. They mentioned Sin City and one of them said to me "It's in black and white right?" and I said yeah so they go nah we're not gonna see that.
Old movies:
I was recently talking to my friends about that Alfred Hitchcock: Masterpiece Collection and I said I wanted to get it (I love Hitchcock films). First they go "Who the hell is Alfred Hitchcock?" Then they bash his films cause they're old and they say "How could you like old movies? They're so boring."

Indeed. One of my favourite films by Hitchcock is Rebecca. That's indeed a masterful horror movie.
Though, you could of course deceive your perceptive ability, and fail to see it's content by distracting yourself with wordings such as: "It's black and white", or "It doesn't have stereo sound", et cetera.
It's really quite the same as watching SAW, and saying it's a: "Gore movie".
Yes, of course, in it's own it's a true statement. There is a bunch of gore in the movie. But that isn't the point at all. It's about as insightful as saying: "Oh! Keanu Reeves can't act, therefore The Matrix is a bad movie".
Keanu Reeves is a bad actor, but it definitely does not make The Matrix a bad movie. That's a logical (informal) fallacy (back to Feldman again): non causa pro causa.
