Nope, you just need at least two settlements to connect them.

I just throw those better looking mats everywhere very close together, that cost like 3 cloth. Can't be bothered to waste more materials for my goons.

Artillery is useless without someone manning it. Who's doing the job in your settlement?

Also it only fires around the settlement, so one artillery is all you need.

Pro-Tip for Settlementfags.
The 2nd level of the Food&Drink store is actually a Bar. Settlers will grab drinks from there and look for possible places to sit down to enjoy their beverage in the after hours.

Yondaime wrote: | A: When an attack happens, most of your settlers (except those assigned to guard posts) will run out of the base, which defeats the whole purpose of making a nice choke point.
B: Attacks almost never happens if you make the base have good defense. Sanctuary, which is my most defended and well built base has never had a single attack since the start.
C: You don't really gain anything from them except caps in the case of having those traders. And even that is kind of pointless since there's nothing to really buy in this game, thanks to the gun/armor customization. |
A: Maybe one can think of this as a two-way tower defense, so you would try to slow down your idiots as well... Obviously thats pretty ridiculous.
B: I think it makes sense that you get attacked less often, with a high defense. After all, who attacks Fort Knox? But really, who would? Bigger organisations might, since big defenses can indicate good loot. So maybe a mod should decrease the number of attacks (not to zero, though) but up their strength?
While on the subject, I have a question. What even happens if you don't defend a base? What is lost? Nameless settlers? Resources? Buildings? Do I lose the respect of the o-so-important minutemen?
C: I wonder how one would solve this. This would probably involve making other parts of the game harder, so that any potential gains are actually needed. Like increase the strength of monsters, and let good settlements weaken them again or something ...
