Found a busted up armour in the wilderness and took it for a ride and then left it, and my tricked out powerarmour at sanctuary was gone when i got back.
No powerarmour symbol on the map either.
Bug or just gameplay?
Thought it could be cool to have 1 Power armour at each base

Remove the fusion core from the power armor to be sure someone doesn't nick it.
Any time they get attacked (even if a bloatfly wanders in accidentally), someone will run for the armor, and then abandon it wherever they are when the combat ends. You might get lucky if you search around the place. But yeah. if you don't plan on using them, take the core out.
I once had my pimped T35 "borrowed" at the Castle, but eventually it turned up during another attack.

I pimped mine out. Then move it to the street in Sanctuary so I can work on the power armor for my companion. Sanctuary gets attacked by some bugs or something that causes everyone to run down the street. I follow as this is my first settlement attack. Just a couple of bugs, easily disposed of, when I go back my pimped out armor is gone. I scoured Sanctuary for 30 mins. No luck.

hm i have some weird lags during gameplay from time to time. Any significant video setting that i can turn off to fix that?
You might try running it in borderless window mode. Fullscreen sometimes seems to give a weird stutter even if framerate is constant. Probably something to do with the vsync Beth is using.
Don't want to use plugin based mods until the official tools come out just in case there's some side effects of the current "hacky" way of doing things but this particular mod almost made me change my mind.
So how is it? More varied environments than FO3/Vegas? What's the biggest improvement (if any)?
Busy with Wasteland 2..
It's a lot of fun so far. Modding weapons/armor adds a lot of interesting elements, I love that VATS only slows enemy movement not stop it, base building can be a lot of fun and really gives you a reason to loot everything. I have no idea of the number of hours I spent just building/gearing up settlers in just 3 bases. The story so far is meh, but I am only lvl 12 so I hope it gets better.

Only loot, or other interesting things too?
I didn't take the Aquaboy perk yet, as i saw no reason for it.
Enthoo Evolv ATX TG // Asus Prime x370 // Ryzen 1700 // Gainward GTX 1080 // 16GB DDR4-3200
This might be of interest to explain the performance issues (apologies if repost, didn't see it)
Spoiler:
We tested using our best single-GPU available, the EVGA GTX 980 Ti Hybrid. Game settings were configured to "Ultra" with “ultra” overrides where not selected. We tested in Diamond City, the first major township the player reaches. We found parts of Diamond City to produce highly intensive load, with a performance gap as wide as nearly 60% in some instances. This makes Diamond City a poorly optimized region of the game that represents a mixed load scenario; our test run begins with the camera pointed toward a heavily occupied region of the city, then moves around a much less intensive corridor. The result is a mixed GPU load that is 100% reproduceable and representative of real-world play experiences.

IMO this is my favorite Bethesda title at this point now that I have 20+ hours in. I'm having a lot more difficulty with survival mode the more I progress. It's getting harder.
And yes, I like the subtle gameplay changes like vats no longer completely pausing combat. It forces you to think faster and use items like Jet more often. Jet is super useful in this game compared to the last where it was just a slight AP buff. Jet not only buffs AP now but the slow down means you can do important tasks during combat like reloading or switching weapons without being murdered.
By the way, anyone know of any balanced Sweetfx/Reshade preset to use? I checked out the usual thelazy site, most seem overdone. I know I can tweak it myself but thought I'd ask before I do that. I basically just want a preset that enhances everything a little but but doesn't overly change colors and all that.
I agree, it's a lot of fun. Yes, the perk system is kind of streamlined but I don't really mind it all that much, it's nice to be able to lockpick a harder lock by choosing to invest in the perk rather than "grinding" it. I also love that aiming is actually fun in this game, so you can choose when to use VATS or not.
I still love Skyrim and all the hours of entertainment it's given me but this is a heck of a lot of fun as well.
Only thing I'd "complain" about is that we still have so many loading screens, I really wish they'd get rid of them more. But it's fine, it's not super annoying, just a little pet peeve really.

Loading screens are fine when entering a dungeon. It means that dungeon can remain unspoiled by the natural fuckyness of the outer game world. Game loads fast enough on SSD that I don't even notice anyways.
I built 3 shops so far in 2 locations, but haven't received anything. How does it work?
Thanks!
The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.

Does sweetfx reduce fps in F4?
Here is my preset. It mostly just sharpens and vibrates the colors a bit more. No real performance hit with that.
SMAA is configured but disabled, because performance.

If you think about it power armor should really come with a set of keys so it doesn't get nicked
Kinda like a car, costs more than a car anyway so it makes sense.
