I am after a nice, clean and simple database app that I can catalogue my backups on. Could do with exporting to a text file but nothing fancy. Having not used one of these since forever, I don't have a clue what to use. can be free or paid but not bloated (not MS office type)

Thanks

If you mean backups as in films, Ant Movie Catalog is pretty good for that. I found that years ago when my mum wanted to catalog all her DVDs

No, I mean backups as in general stuff. I used to print my DVD's/Blu-ray disks, but my printer died. So, I was thinking of just labelling them 1,2,3 etc and keeping a log of what is on them. Of course I could just write a text file but I like to be neat.

How much space are we talking about? A friend of mine is backing up his stuff in old and new flash disks and attaching post its with their contents. For example in one cheap ass 32gb drive he has tons and tons of roms for various systems. In another 64gb drive he has 7z-ultra compressed PSP games.

That's not viable for hundreds of gigs of data though.

EDIT: you could just dump everything neatly in folders in a 2tb external drive and keep an html exported file with the contents on your desktop. Are you searching an app for that cataloguing?

Its stuff based on DVD & Blu-Ray disks. I am clearing up my HD's to make a bit of space and am loathe to delete anything (yeah it's a problem Smile ) so I am backing up mostly games, about 1.5 tb of reggae and other bits and bobs. So it's a mix really. As some of the disks hold a lot of stuff, simply writing on them is not an option, together with the fact my writing is awful.

I have Open office installed but the database part crashes on my for some reason, as I said I want a nice simple and clean program that I can simply list each disk in order.

Thanks

is there a real need for it to be an actual database?
wouldn't an excel/OOcalc/Gdocs spreadsheet do fine?

for actual, simple and portable database sqlite works fine
SQLite Studio is a pretty easy gui client
