|
 |
A friend of mine has a x360 dvd-flash-modded (hitachi drive). He hasn't used it for about 4 years so that hacked firmware is super old and so is his dashboard version.
Now he wants to play gta5, that's gonna require a dashboard update, right ? Is he going to have any problems with his console ?

Yes, he's going to have to update to the latest dashboard (16202 or higher basically) which, if he's not updated in 4 years, will reflash his DVD firmware to support XGD3. He'll have to reflash his drive with LT3.0 custom firmware in order to play any burned games.

Well the game won't run without 16202 dashboard or higher and since his machine is so old, updating to that will trigger an unavoidable drive flashing from the installation. It's something MS did so that the drives could handle XGD3 and the larger disc sizes. Once that's done he's back on stock firmware and won't play any backups, so no.. as far as I know, there's absolutely no escaping it. Even an ODE (optical drive emulator) will require the DVD key and that requires the same tools you'd need to flash the drive anyhow ... so, yeah, not much option I'm afraid.
It all depends on what dashboard your friend has right now, but if it is 4 years old as you say; that predates XGD3 and there's nothing you can do to avoid the reflash. You won't have to "pay" to get it modded though, just buy the flashing tools - they're only $30ish these days, for the CKPro etc.

Fast forward some time into ---> TODAY!
My friend still hasn't done anything with his console, still on oldass pre-XGD3 firmware and dashboard. Now he can find cheap ass 360 games and wants to pay for Live subscription to play online and get freebies. He doesn't care about the older pirated games he has.
So ... does he connect his console to the internet and let it update his dashboard (and firmware) ?

dunno exactly how it was, but some firmware updates reflashed the drive to original status (depends on the drive). would recommend to reflash the original firmware manually (which he hopefully has) and update then to decrease the possibility of getting flagged

Men, he connected his console to the net and did the online update but his dvd firmware didn't get updated/reflashed. He can still play the older copies and not the newer authentic games he bought. He just has the new dashboard now.
Why? Will the manual update through USB be any different? How can he get his dvd firmware reflashed with original fw?
I think his console has the hitachi dvd.
Shiiiieeet.
