the man from uncle (also theres some dots in there, but fuck-it)
i dunno... its... its like it had all the right elements, but somehow just didnt gel often enough for it to be awesome. I love the actors, it had a really great cast and they did their characters well, yet somehow it felt like a collection of cool and/or funny sequences, mixed haphazardly with some functional and less inspired ones that dragged it down...
and aside from the occasional bit of quirky music, i never EVER would have believed it if id been told it was a guy ritchie movie... it just... it just wasn't him... this wasn't him, it lacked his style...

Il Mostro (1994) - 9/10
I've watched it so many times, yet it never gets old xD. You can't go wrong with the classic Benigni, brilliant timeless humour, with just the right amount of silliness. (If by any chance you end up watching it and you like it, don't forget to watch Johnny Stecchino as well!)
These earlier movies didn't get much recognition abroad (unlike Life is Beautiful), but they deserve it.

I agree with Chiv. This was least Ritchie style film (except the shit he done with Madonna).

Spectre - 6/10
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

The Last Witch Hunter - 6/10. No standout scenes, not enough witch hunting. I could see the twist at the end coming from a mile away. The movie kind of felt like a less interesting Van Helsing.

Bone Tomahawk - 9/10
Pretty awesome film. Got like no attention. Has Kurt Russel and a bunch of other decent actors.
Superb acting and a great original plot.
Because I don't want to spoil anything just see the film, and don't read anything about it. The fact that the film has had such a limited release, no advertising campaign, etc actually works to the viewers favor as this movie is not the generic western it appears to be.
One of the most original films i've seen in a while and is a must see. Richard Jenkins acting in this film almost upstages Kurt. Beyond that Matthew Fox does a great job with his character, and Patrick Wilson does a great job as well.
Spoiler: |
I won't rate it a perfect 10 because they made a pretty huge error with the structuring of the film IMO. The film would have delivered better 'shock' at the climax if they did not basically reveal the villains at the start of the movie like they did. I truly do not understand why the director chose to do this. Great otherwise, still plenty of shocking/horrific moments and some great tension; It's just mind boggling why they would reveal literally at the start of the film like they did. Even odder is that they have the traditional horror movie 'who are these guys' build up before the climax where the director did a good job of slowly setting up the villains but this is all made worthless to the viewer as the viewer has already seen that stupid start of the film. |

Rosewater (2014) - 5.5, descent film but man did it drag
M:I Rogue Nation (2015) - 6, not bad but more of the same
Extinction (I) (2015) - 5, not a horrible zombie movie
Dead Rising: Watchtower (2015) 3, had a couple of funny moments but pretty much trash
The Hunt "Jagten" (2012) 8, excellent movie with a superb ending (Mads Mikkelsen is the man!)

Bone Tomahawk 7/10
Great cast, only thing that kept it from an 8 would be its pacing. Not that uncommon for a Western tho, recent ones have been good but always just a bit too slow for my liking.
And yup, what Mchart says in the spoiler, was also surprised they did this. Could have been even better. But still a nice movie to watch.
The Web-DL that is out there is of good quality, so for the eager ones no reason to wait.
