I have a sneaking suspicion that id's "involvement" amounted to little more than some general advice rather than anything hands-on, and that the combat won't be drastically different than FO3.

Almost full perk chart. Now you can plan your characters ahead of time. |
As always most of the perks are just incremental boring shit like skyrim... good job Bethesda

They've been made more casual than I remember them being in new vegas as well.
For instance rank 3 adamantium skeleton, completely removes limb damage.
That coupled with no weapon condition deterioation and no food and drink survival mode will make for a very 'streamlined' experience.

The Aquaboy perk removes radiation damage from water and allows you to breathe underwater (gills mutation?). I wonder if that means there will be underwater exploration of some sort. Seems kind of pointless otherwise.

3rd person running animation looked surprisingly fluid and natural for Bethesda game. Finished FO3 and have no desire to play another one... It looks way too similar.

Some final levels of perks give you the following abilities.
Spoiler: | Running while overencumbered.
2xDamage with your chosen weapon + paralysation.
No Limb damage
Store 3 criticals and 'unleash' them at will.
Never get locked out of terminals.
Four times amount ammunition found in containers.
20%+ Accuracy and damage
Bobby pins never break.
Reversed enemy bullets that can kill. |
Oh god what.

I'll be avoiding anything that gives damage resistance or damage modifiers. That's the stuff of overpoweredness. No VATS for me either. Looking and the perks left after that, looks like I won't be running out of junk, ammo and money...

Finally watched the videos (I can never resist goddammit, it's stronger than me), yep it's pretty much what I expected . Looks like they focused a bit more on the shooter-y way, which isn't a bad thing really since the Fallout 3 spin-off ( ) was streamlined as well, only with a shooting part that was rather average.
It may accidentally become the best FPS of the recent years along with GTA V. Since we'll likely never have another 'true' sequel, I'm okay with that.
edit:
As for the graphics, there is no other way to put it, they do look dated - almost no shadows, simplistic models, animations (the dog casually walking while being on fire, #justgamebyothings xD), textures..the poor modders will have so much work to do. Same for the couch-friendly HUD, but what else is new with the Bryomen.
The facial animations are odd as well, they're more dynamic but for the wrong reasons, it's as if all the characters were high on Xanax. But dozens and dozens of hours will be spent with the game anyway, my body is ready. Explore and pew

There is a new leak about the worldmap size compared to previous games:
Spoiler: | |
According to that there is a huge amount of water areas. So i guess there will be indeed water exploration. Which would be cool.

I think that's exactly it too... we all know there's a lot of drawbacks, a lot of negatives, and that it's simply not "the original" series any longer - but we also know that we're going to have dozens upon dozens of hours exploring a well realised, fleshed out, enjoyable game world with lots to discover and even more to kill. It won't be a Witcher-esque award winning story, the visuals aren't making Cervat Derply lose any sleep and the amount of bugs and glitches we're going to experience will make even Derek Smart laugh his ass off.
Despite all that, I know we're going to friggin' enjoy this immensely |
Damn right!
