Well i have no idea or experience with these things.

Right now im using a 7950 and this thing

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003HFCDLY/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=

Says led, led backlit, i think ive never used ips or tn, let alone 144hz

What are my options, currently im calculating a 600 budget with maybe a sacrifice if needed, gpu+monitor

This "thing" you are using has a TN panel.
There is no 120hz IPS or VA with 1080p or below 580$, except for the controversial FG2421.
You can get a 1440p MG279Q that's gonna eat up the whole budget or wait at least 5-8 months until the 30'' 2560x1080 144hz VA is released but that is not going to be cheap either.
Your only remaining options are the plethora of TN panels then. Sad
The Nixeus has only an input board it is possible you can't change brightness on it without destroying the contrast ratio but I'm not sure.
If you want to get one of the overclockable Koreans then the Crossover 2795 QHD @ 96-110hz is currently your best bet... But no Freesync and worse response times than the native 144hz panels.

Lots of 'pro' gamers and pcmustardracers, seeing as it's the only panel that does 144hz at high resolutions.
I'm fine with my 60hz IPS panel.

Several IPS monitors can do 2560x1440 at 144hz by now I believe, GSync and Freesync variants too and a four digit price tag no doubt. Very Happy
(I've been waiting to see what the earlier announced VA's from Eizo can do, not really a huge need to upgrade the monitor ATM but I'd like 120+ hz instead of 60 and IPS is probably better than this Samsung whatever-it-is panel, some IPS hybrid I suppose, sort-of.)

What are you, stuck in the 80s? Cool Face

The Acer XB270HU is absolutely amazing. I love this monitor to pieces.

P.S. I also got a good one as there were plenty of reports of dodgy models in the initial release wave. Don't know if things improved since.

I bought this Dell U3014 last year. Show me a monitor at the same size or higher. But with higher hz and similar panel and I might buy it.

TN has only one significant advantage and that is no IPS glow.
The advantage in pixel response times is still there but compared to the fastest AHVA the difference in motion is very small.
The colour performance on the 8-bit TN is actually not that far off from a good IPS, at least one improvement there.
But the colour consistency is ruined by the bad viewing angles. And due to the vertical brightness shifting the top third of TN monitors eats away details in dark areas.
Also the coating on the TN displays is more matte so the image seems slightly grainy, this is another disadvantage that is actually bigger than it sounds.

here are some PG278Q and XR34 comparison pics

When did this conversation specifically talked about 30'???

You said that only TN does 144hz at high resolutions which is total bull nowadays.

The IPS in XB270HU does 144hz at 2560x1440. Unless of course you don't consider that "high resolution" anymore, which is totally snobbish.

Do you know the purpose of the troll face at the end of the statement?

Obviously not so I will explain it to you. The statement was not a serious comment, rather it was a tease of "there are 60+ IPS panels you know" and then I proceeded to give you the example of a 144hz IPS panel.

At which point, obviously by your lack of acknowledging the troll icon, you went into full defensive mode and suddenly made the discussion about 30' only and "show me a panel that's higher than mine" to which shocktrooper did.

Tom's now reviewed the Nixeus:

other than Gamma issues and TN angle problems it does not seem that bad
