CD Projekt Red: 'Cyberpunk 2077 is far, far bigger than The Witcher 3'
Quote: | “Cyberpunk is far bigger than anything else that CD Projekt Red has done before,” visual effects artist Jose Teixeira told MCV. “Far, far bigger.
“We're really stepping into the unknown in terms of complexity and size and problems we encounter.”
Teixeira continued by saying that The Witcher 3’s scope had helped the studio to refine its open-world formula for Cyberpunk 2077.
"The Witcher helped Cyberpunk quite a bit, because the game got so big and so complex that it really taught us,” he explained. “We really didn't know what was going to happen.
“If anything, working on The Witcher 3 was a really good and often brutal learning experience. Cyberpunk is going to benefit greatly from it. I can almost guarantee it.
"I have a lot of things that I want to change and do better the next time around, and I can guarantee that almost everyone in that studio has something that they go 'I did this this time, next time I can do it differently, I can do it better'.” |

If it was any other dev I'd be sceptical but not with CDPR. This will be a long wait.

After Witcher 3, this just can't turn out bad. Even if they simply recreate Witcher 3 in a cyberpunk world, it'll be awesome. I'm just wondering how the story and characters will be without an established novel series to fall back on.
A studio that tries to reinvent the wheel every iteration, and succeeds mostly, deserve a pre-order waaaaay before release.

I love these guys.
After CP 2077 they'll do an MMO, and it will be great!

Thats a weird way of saying "free to play in 12months and pulled in 24"

Same.
Maybe in the style of The Secret World.
Which was a MMO but could be played as Singleplayer game.

Will this "bigger == better" mentality in gaming ever end?
I want a game that is BETTER than ever, not bigger.
PS: not saying "big == bad" either, don't get me wrong. But lately it seems to be only selling point of any new game. "Our map takes 3 hours to cross!", "our games takes 200hrs if you complete all side quests"... ok... but are those 200hrs of boring shit? Or of actually engaging gameplay and storytelling? I don't know, seems to me that these days it's "quantity over quality" for a lot of companies.
This having been said, it's CDProject, if anyone can make a ginormous game and have it not suck too it's them. Let's hope. But I still not like the mentality of it.

That's true, Leaf But I do feel the need to point out he said nothing about map size Only game size in a rather broad sense so far - which may just as well have something to do with them dealing with a different gameplay structure this time around (multuple classes, genders, character types and so on). This alone might make Cyberpunk a lot "bigger" than the Witcher, if not neceserilly bigger in the sense of having a bigger landmass.
For example, quests in Witchers usually offer players some scrpted choices (with adequate consequences later on), but don't offer them the freedom of approach - for one, there was no stealth system in any of the games, aside from those scripted fragments in Assassins of Kings. Persuasion also felt underused, only finally fully developping into a viable option in the third game, IMO (and even that was done in a very simple way, mostly by using the sign). Cyberpunk will probably build upon that. I think trying to combine the freedom of approach and urban exploration of games like Deus Ex and heavy story choices/consequneces of the Witchers without losing the weight and fun of both might just be one of the challanges they're trying to tackle right now.
