Yeah, you need to really get down'n'dirty with the scripting if you want to turn standard RPG Maker fare into the more "Zelda"-esque gameplay. It's doable though, if you're skilled enough.

Quote: | According to the developer Midora is a love letter to classic 2D Action-Adventure games to the like of Legend of Zelda or Secret of Mana |
It looks SUPER lovely, but I'd say it is more like Alundra and Beyond Oasis (The Story of Thor) rather than these 2.
UPD: waitaminute, I heard about Midora before. Wasn't it supposed to be free indie or something? Lemme google and dig some TIG..

"Ran out of money, sorry, tough shit everyone. Publishers; who wants to throw us $120k? We can't finish without it"
Quote: | I will admit that the amount needed to create this game was largely underestimated for the campaign,” wrote the director of a Kickstarter game called Midora in an update yesterday. “I knew that the game would need more than $60,000 to be made. |
Cunts.

Another glorious Kickstarter success.
~edit~
And yes, there's always one;
Quote: | People never seem to understand that when you back a project there's no certainty that you'll actually get what you paid for. Kickstarter's a gamble, I don't see any real reason to complain when it goes wrong 'cause it's kinda your decision to risk it in the first place.
Anyway I really hope things get better for you guys soon, it always has looked like it'll be a fantastic game, it'd be a real shame not to get to play it.
Good luck, don't let the complaints get you down, it just means they care about the game. |

The developer basically misled everyone on the kickstarter. Asking for 60k knowing that it wasn't even enough to finish his project. So people were basically throwing money at them not knowing that they would get nothing back in return. So nice of the developer to disclose that fact after they had been funded and reached their KS goal. I hope people who backed this can somehow get their money back. The dev dropped a pretty big clanger with that statement, so I'm sure there's some grounds there for compensation providing there's some channels to do so.

More likely it means "we can't refund anyone because we have no money left to refund with" they ran out of cash months ago, it seems, as far back as April. Now they claim it will take $120-150k to finish and they're hoping a publisher will come along and bail them out >_>

These guys are arrogant as hell. In the Kickstarter comments there's another indie developer who offered them free consultation based on his experience with other successful projects, and they turned him down by saying they know how to handle a budget better than him.

Yup, I read through the comments and holy shit the attitude on these guys :\ Oh well, another glorious Kickstarter success, I'm glad I didn't back this because there's zero chance of it ever coming out. What publisher is going to throw $120k+ at a project where the team couldn't even manage $70k?
"Here! Have some free money!"? Yeah, no, more like "Sure, here's $120k. We'll take the IP, we'll take the profits, we'll contractually oblige you to create a sequel, to which you'll get 2% royalties and we'll take the rest. Deal?"

Absolutely nothing whatsoever. Many Kickstarters have fizzled with nothing ever showing and the backers receiving no refunds and there is little to no legal recompense unless people can show active deception.

Legally, yes, they're classed as "pledges" and "donations", not "purchases" or "investments" - it's currently a source of great annoyance and consternation online, with many trying to get laws changed to protect backers. There's been a couple of times where backers have successfully sued a KS but they're few and far between.

This is ridiculous. From a law perspective we're talking about "projects". This means there's a "contract" between the KS company and the "investor" who pays for the project to be finished in the future. If the project fails the company has to compensate the "investor". Wow I didn't know the whole KS thing has so many legal gaps. It's completely vulnerable to frauds this way.

I think if Kickstarter backers were truly investors they would have a lot more clout. They could for example set milestones the developers have to hit or else! etc.
But they are really not.

"...like nothing else on television."
"a phenomenon."
"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."

Kickstarter should be required to verify a project creator's contact info and make it available to every backer once the funding period is over.
