god is just a word to give people hope.
imo, the bible is just a book writen by travelers and the church used this book and the story around them to get money, and to lure people to the church itself to donate money.
but hey, every1 has an opinion about this hehe.
i sure don't believe in this crap.

Indeed, it’s all about money and power.
I don't say anything against believing in god, but against believing in a book written ages ago and filled with crap (same thing fits on the Koran).

i think it is stupid too. and i don't see either why the evolution theorie contradicts the bible. the god damn story about creation can be understood as a metaphor and voila: no contradiction.
jesus christ was a gangsta rapper. they killed him. he came back and made a platinum album.

Man created God.
Then man took away their own worth,
and proceeded to worship what they had created.
Then man said everything was created by God.
And man took away their true prowess of creation.
Then some men with corruped minds and souls said:
We can speak to God
And ruled other men by whim.
And took away their ability to govern themselves.
And man said:
Glorious is God!
As they died in "his" holy wars.
And man took away their own existence, out of "faith".
Faith only makes people into hollow, powerless nothing.
It's more worse than suicide.
Yes, yes I'm back.
Somewhat.

@Mutantius
There might be something like 'god' but then it has nothing to do with any of the gods people believe in, and then this thing also gives a shit about us. In a mind of such a being we are only a bunch of bugs crawling through his house, and he/her/it would never ever interact with stupid bugs like us or care about what we do (or perhaps like a scientist cares about his Petri plate).

The thread title implies that only Americans believe in God. Religion is more of a global ignorance ...

Well I dont believe in an "active" god...
Truth is you dont have an idea what happens when you die... So I think we are going to get it all solved when we pass away or when Comedy Central decides to remove the goddamn formalities and get the proper license to say fuck on public TV.

I don't believe in God, for I am god, and I have a self esteem problem.

I happen to believe there is a higher power which if you are in touch with on a daily basis helps guide you through life and looks out for your best interests but you still have to make the decisions.
Personally I'm not religious at all, can't stand organized religion, it's not my cup of tea but i do consider myself very spiritual.
I don't doubt that each religion has given faith and hope to millions of its followers which is a good thing, but on the other hand there are those in each religion/culture who twist things to suit their needs, manipulate others and take things too literal and to the extreme which usually end with horrific consequences.
On the whole religion is a good thing imho as it fills a void in peoples lives which can't be found elsewhere.
Personally I believe in the theory of evolution.I think it makes much more sense but thats not to say I don't also believe in some divine spirit or force guiding or looking after each of us.
As for Religion vs Science I rule that religion must stay 500 yards away from science at all times.

Well as a protestant I dont have to confess nor do I need to visit the church or pray. I know God will forgive me and promise me eternal bliss |
Ah ok...thats more a spirtuallity thing in general tho...not really protestant. Are u parents protestant and thats why u are? or have u actually decided that u believe in the faith?
i grew up in a Roman Catholic house, im "confirmed" and all that shit. But in my mind, Ive never been christian as I have never believed literally in the bible. Rather, its a myth right. Good inspiration, good teachings, but nothing more - not the word of god.
Maybe an interpretation, but still, thats stretching it.

Elzar wrote: | I saw a documentary about Darwin’s theory of evolution and religious fanatic Americans who are against this theory. They want the damn silly bible theory accepted in public schools. The thing with Adam and Eve, you know.. How can someone be so fucking stupid and believe in this crap? Ok you may believe in god, but you can't take the shit from the bible for real.
They call their theory 'intelligence design’ (someone intelligent [god] created and designed everything in 7 days), so they disparage Darwin and compare him with Hitler and Mussolini.
They said in the doku that 64% of all Americans believe that there must be a god who created the humans (like in the bible) and parallel to all other species (for example they believe that humans lived parallel to dinosaurs). How fucking stupid is that? And now they want this crap as an accepted theory in public schools? equal to Darwin? Do they want to breed a new generation of idiots who believe in fantasy stories and not in facts?
The other point was the theory about the big bang. Ok this is all very theoretic, but we now know a lot of things about physics and space, so these theories are the only way to explain why things work like they work.
Sometimes I think the American Christians are not very different from the fanatic terrorists which fight their holy war, except they don’t blast themselves.
I really like America, but sometimes I belive the ‘old Europe’ is the only place in the world where the people are cleared up enough and get rid of their outdated attitudes.
FUCK all religions and fanatic fuckers!!!
And sorry for my bad English

YAY FOR MASSIVE GENERALIZATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (add a nice jingle, and it sounds good)
I agree with you on the whole religious fanatic thing, but you really need to realize that America is not filled with bible thumpers.

inteligint design first off is the belief of evolution overseen by a higher being... i believ that some higher being put the first single celled orginism on earth and then the rest is just happened i am a firm believer in evolution but i do believe the first organism was made by a "god" of sorts

Hmmm yea my my parents was protestant (like 95% of the population here )
and well dunno but we are teached to just love god not waste our life trying to make "him/her/it" happy since we are forgiven and ready to "disembark"
And I can only agree with your beliefs in the bible, its an inspiration on how to live your life and just like the Koran you can read this different ways and believe it in different ways (George Bush). |
Well, I still say ur beliefs are more spirituallity based than christian, but meh, its all good as long as it works well for ya right?
Its funny how so many wars have been fought over this book or that book...and in the end, its all the same...ridiculous. All these mainstream religions teach tolerance for one another, but dont practice it...fucked up really
