Beta will soon be open to all and includes both online and offline functionality.

Aaaaaaaaaaand it's gone.

http://www.gamespot.com/articles/star-wars-battlefront-beta-has-no-offline-play/1100-6431117/

No offline for the beta. Supposedly this was known as far back as September 16th, I guess Gamespot are slow Laughing

A.) For the Beta, an Internet connection is required to play Missions. However, when Star Wars Battlefront ships on November 17 you will be able to play Missions offline.

Drop Zone on Sullust: Escape pods are crashing down and you and your team must fight to control them. With its frantic 8v8 matches, Drop Zone is sure to put your combat and strategy skills to the test.

Survival Mission on Tatooine: Play alone or with a friend via co-op or split-screen as you battle to hold off waves of Imperial forces including AT-ST’s, TIE fighters, elite stormtroopers and more.

These two smaller modes actually sound like fun. In Battlefield the main-mode Conquest is king, but for this game I think these modes might be what I'll play more.

Of course if the shooting and gameplay in general is terrible no mode or variation can save it, so the beta will be a good time to decide the buy/not buy stance.

The worst thing this game has against it right now in my eyes is the ridiculously casual "token" system they opted to use for vehicles.

Basically, the gist of it is as follows : Token power-ups spawn at pre-determined locations on the map (always in the same place) - if you're the first person to touch the token it vanishes and you are instantly spawned into a vehicle. Now you have a predetermined amount of time to use the vehicle, no matter how well or poorly you do, once the timer is up the vehicle is de-spawned and you are shit out of luck.

All this is going to lead to is the majority of people camping pre-determined spots on the map rather than doing objectives. It's a dumb fucking system. Also, there's no sort of countermeasures available, so yea, have fun being shot at from across the map with homing missiles that you won't be evading (at least in land vehicles).

We'll see how this plays out, but my buddies impression of the Alpha earlier this year was, in his words, "atrocious" (coming from a Battlefield vet).

They may have already changed/tweak this mechanic as, like I said, this was for the July/August Alpha they ran earlier this year. We won't know for sure until the 8th.

Nothing helps the immersion more than watching a regular grunt trooper stumble over a power-up and turn into Vader. Its just like in the movies!

Doesn't sound like the hero system has evolved at all.

Now you tell me vehicles despawn WHILE someone is controlling them?

Its a video game. We get it. You don't have to try so hard to show it. What about masking the mechanics a little to make it more immersive. No? Okay.

It's like they enjoy giving me less and less reasons to buy the game. Fuck matchmaking up its ass.

And that Hero gameplay looks both boring and overpowered at the same fucking time

Only EA with their expertise and degree in advanced Admiral Ackbar traps could manage to make me completely lose interest in a Battlefront game.

I went from being cautiously pseudo-hyped, to mildly disappointed, to utterly disgusted, and now I'm just embracing the I don't care anymore Phil-phase, the same that happened months ago with the whoop whoop Hardlinefield.
A worthy opponent for Rainbow Duty and Black Doritos The Third, it's like the special olympics for shooters. Sad Laughing

Are they trying to kill interest in this on purpose as some elaborate money laundering scheme or what?

Like they reported the budget as 60 Million, when only a couple thousands were spent on it, and the rest went to buying mounds of cocaine for EA execs to sniff off some 20 something year old wannabe actress with daddy issues?

Looks pretty casual to me.

Also didn't help that they had two total newbies play the game.

The Star Wars Battlefront developer actually pronounced Twi'lek "TWYLEK" and called AT-ATs "ADATs".

That made me very annoyed, lol. Way to impress meh....

The game still has a lot of visual bugs.

The maps looked very narrow, full of corridors and clutter. Looks like a random map seed generator spewed them out.

Heroes were the only highlight, but you only get to be one at random if you find a stupid power-up.

Instead of your soldier being taken over by the AI when you get a hero power-up, the soldier just disappears - and you respawn somewhere as the hero.

Graphics looked good, but too clean. Audio was great except the repetitive callouts from the one or two voice actors they hired to voice ALL the soldiers.

It was possible find power-ups for other stuff too, different vehicles, turrets and the heroes at least. We saw someone deploy a smaller auto-turret. That could possibly have been a power-up item.

You also could get a power-up to be transferred to the AT-AT, but only as a gunner.

I wonder if the cap for heroes is set at 2 or whether there could be more active heroes at the same time. Obviously not two Lukes or two Vaders, but once others like Boba are introduced. I guess it'd be too dominating to have like 4 heroes in a 40 player match.
