Forza and Gran Turismo are not simulations. Did you ever drive a real car ?
Project Cars is more of a simulation than these 2 though.

Gran Turismo not a simulation?! It's slogan is 'The Real Driving Simulator' lol.
I'm glad you agree Project Cars is more of a simulation!
May the NFOrce be with you always.

Yep and its slogan is dated. Back then on PS1 it was a simulation compared to everything else, but it never was really. This slogan appeared since GT1 IIRC.

Fair enough
Although, pCARS is not that different if you leave all the assists on
DC still sits at the bottom of the arcade racing pile too though

Yeah and as cyclone says, it's not a sim. GT1+2 were more sim than anything else at the time (except Grand Prix), but it was never a sim.
As for what's what, here's a slide from pCARS' original presentation:
Sums it up pretty well. DC sits with Hot Pursuit on the left, not a smidge of realism besides the car names. Forza and GT have realistic elements in them, but neither is a sim. For starters, neither has a damage model worth speaking of (if any, sup GT?). And neither has particularly accurate physics. The realistic parts are in the basic driving elements; they're not simulated, but they're close enough to reality to still require more than half a braincell.
GRID and Shift for example also have a few realistic elements, but both focus more on the racing aspect (which is what made Shift so enjoyable for me, it's still one of few games that truly makes races exciting, something GT fails at miserably).
pCARS still isn't a full blown sim, but it's closer to being a sim than GT or Forza. All of these games specifically went for these styles as well. Except for DC, which was touted as a sim for so long; and even after it was out some retards still said it was more realistic than pCARS. If only those people had ever actually driven a car

That's some bullshit. Shift 1 & 2 are much more simulations than GT 5 or 6. Much more realistic driving model, complex damage model, accurate road simulation. GT 5 was such a pathetic excuse of a game. Even what some people claimed it had, good graphics, was very misleading. A few cars looked good. Others looked like cardboard models. Trees were cardboards. Lighting was terrible. Overall a terrible game. Forza, I would put with Grid, a nice looking game but not a good simulator.

Well, we both played Shift on a PC. Out of the box both games have some odd elements in their physics model that take away from the simulation aspect. Easily fixed though
GT5 was a joke. It was one of the games I looked forward to when I got my PS3, fuelled by fond memories of GT1 and 2, and I was sorely disappointed.

I played GT 1 & 2 on my PS1, and NFS 3 & 4 on PC. I cannot say that I remember GT 1 or 2 being more simulation than NFS. Back then I used to play around with car parameters, and there were a lot of stuff going into the performance and handling of each car (while not simulation, it was not the arcade people make them to be). GT 1 & 2 were OK racers with many many cars. That's about it from memory.

Yeah, I know how bad they are on PS1. I bought (or rather, my mom on my request ) the PS1 rather very late in it's lifetime, because I wanted to play games on the TV with friends. So I did buy NFS 4 I think for PS1 and was horrified how terrible it was compared to 3Dfx NFS on PC.
(BTW, where does PS"X" come from? Emulators? Why not PS or PS1?)

"NGC" would be more understandable, but why not just GC?

Hipster tools, basically, that's why. And yup, it's called "PS"/"PS1" and "GC"/"NGC" in Japan and Europe, only American wannabecoolz call it "PSX" and "GCN" >_>

It's an annoying habit internet cretins picked up as they try to be cool by using the in-development codename of the PlayStation, which was called the "PSX", claiming that it was always called the PSX and nobody said "PS". It's always irritated me and have never, not once, heard someone say out loud "PSX", it was always "PlayStation", "PS" or - later when the PS2 was a thing - "PS1"/"PSone" stylised.
These same people call the Gamecube the "GCN" |
saying not, but in writing it was always psx if i remember correctly. the only thing i hate is the namechange with the 1 addition (ps1,psone).

You don't remember correctly. It was not "always PSX in writing". Two magazines called it the PSX; one magazine stylised P.S.X and another PSXtreme, both referring to the codename it was called during development and it stuck, every other magazine - including OFFICIAL PLAYSTATION MAGAZINE - called it the "PlayStation", "Play Station", or "PS"
At least in UK/Europe/Japan.

It's a long-standing irritation of mine to hear people calling it "PSX", so I've spent a lot of time over the last few years reading up on why hipster 'tards do it. In the UK it was always "PS", in the mags, on the game shows, in the playground or wherever. I do sometimes have to refresh my memory because, well, it's busted.. but most of it I remember keenly
~edit~
Holy shit, haha, sorry for all the off-topic stuff. um. um... I loved GT1-2, the rest were disappointments and I've never played a Forza title though I'd love to see Forza 5/6 on PC
