Early on I noticed that the ACC had a lot of goat/sheep pictures, like they showed in one of the pre-release trailers, so I figured it must be predetermined what shows there. But it seems like maybe it does change based on your actions/harvesting proclivities:
I was first introduced to the MGS universe (wasn't much of an 'MGS universe' back then) in 98-99 with the game released on the PSX. I was hooked ever since and played every game in the series (except the MGS ACID games) and I can say the games become somewhat of an obsession of mine (I also collect toy figurines and whenever possible I tried to buy the CE)
After 3 weeks playing this game I can finally say this: I don't think this is the game Kojima had in mind.
I don't know what went wrong, but I had a bad feelings about the quality of this game ever since the rumors about Kojima being laid off first surfaced.
Its very hard to explain but the game simply feels rushed and unfinished.
Usually rushed games have a myriad of bugs gameplay inconsistencies etc..
This is not the case here, I find the gameplay free of major bugs (from my experience of course) and the game mechanics feels tight.
I find this game to be very good at being an 'open world stealth/action game'.....
but very bad at being MGS game.
The game simply feels lacking any soul.
The Afgan map while big is mostly filled up by inaccessible mountains and it makes me feel like i am limited to roads. The map feels (and i exaggerate) like a bunch of crisscrossed "corridors" (wide corridors but still a corridor) with the occasional more "open" guard post or a base.
The African map is an improvement in this regard but its much more smaller.
The plot itself...... while it had a potential is almost non existent in game. It feels like I am going from one disjointed mission to the next. Some, very few, do feel related.
Later missions (and this is where the game being rushed feels the most) are simply recaps of earlier missions simply on higher difficulty level.
I wouldn't have any issues with this if it would've made any sense plot wise.... but no they don't. The missions briefings are simply the same ones as when I first received them. It so obvious they tried to artificially inflate the game length by introducing those mission and they didn't even give a proper reason.
And don't get me started on Punished 'Mute' Snake. And yes I know about the plot twist and no, It doesn't make any sense why he almost doesn't speak. It feels to me as there was more dialog but simply there was no way to incorporate it in any sensible way into the game.
And in the end when everything is said and done, I don't feel any closure.
If it was a game by a new/small time studio or a by some nobody it could've been explained as simply incompetence. But sadly after a long successful line of games (some more some less) - incompetence is the last thing you can say about Kojima, although its always possible he fucked up in this case but I don't think so.
I simply think the game was rushed by some bigwigs from above.
And this is probably gonna be the last MGS game to ever be made by Kojima
This saddens me immensely. What more saddens me is that's how the series ends, not with a bang but a whimper .
What a shame.
I'll never understand why people keep posting in threads of games they don't like.
yes it's totally crazy. except if the game is on the nforce hate list, because it's an ea or ubisoft game or too casual or too "ganster/hip", then everyone goes crazy and hate and hate. titanfall thread anyone?
apperently this is ok, but if someone attacks a real nerdy japanese shit game, hell breaks loose
Stefan, don't troll.
To the others, this is not an echo chamber and I won't have it turn into one. You will deal with people with difference of opinion on this forum. People not liking something, doesn't mean they're not allowed to critisize it.
How do you get MB points? There must be some way because I have 150 for some reason, but new FOBs cost 1200. 90hrs in and I must have missed it somewhere. Do you convert resources to them somehow? I think the only way I've been getting them so far is through the daily rewards.
I did just unlock FOBs, is there a way to generate them now? The game didn't go over it (that I noticed)
You get a small amount the first time you login every day(as far as I know) or you pay real money for them.

I just discovered the most hilariously bullshit instance of cheating AI yet. I was doing a destroy an armoured vehicle unit side op, which had 2 APCs plus a gunship. I was over 500m away, hidden, no alerts or anything, with a large hill between me and the unit. I called in an artillery strike from my iDroid and the instant the first rounds hit, the gunship knew exactly where I was and flew over to me and shot me.

They are giving out daily bonuses for the first month or two as an apology for all the server troubles at launch. This includes handfuls of coins every few days. There's no way to earn them in-game, they were always intended to be a cash-only purchase. The current giveaways are only for a limited period.
You get the first FOB for free. You have to buy a second one with coins (I think it's 1200). It also costs coins if you want to move the location of your FOB to different waters (the ones with the best resources aren't available when you choose the starting location to build the FOB, at least for the free one). Even if you have no intention of doing any of the MP stuff, it's definitely worth building the free FOB and upgrading it in order to raise your personnel caps.
Yeah I am sure they worked it out ahead of time so that it left you short, as a bigger incentive to spend money. But like I said, just use the free one and treat it purely as a way to increase the personnel cap. Only log in when you need to upgrade the platforms, then just choose disconnect from the main menu. With a fully expanded Mother Base and FOB (4/4 for all platforms), the overall cap is 1400, with 200 per unit.
All the haters writing essays on why they don't like the game. lol please go play something else you do like, instead of giving us a wall of text of how you're so disappointed for something you got for free anyway.
@xyzg They're free to do so, there's things I don't like about the game either (minor to mid major stuff though) and I'm kind of influenced by the open world aspect.

It's just trolling to write half page rants without highlighting some of the positive things the game does right. There's legitimate issues with the game but it's no way as bad as some have made it out to be. There's a lot of small details in the game and it's obvious that the dev did try to make a good game and not just put out any old rubbish thinking it would sell just because it's a metal gear game. Even if you agree with all the hate this game has got harry_theone, there's many people that think the gameplay is fun and still a whole lot better than some of the half hearted efforts people put out as games nowadays.
I'm glad the metal gear games even made it to the PC in the first place.

Where did you watch all the MGS5 stuff? I've deleted the game as I got bored shortly after the rehashing missions started, still would like to know the story or what's left of it

I bought this game. I actually bought it twice, once for the CE edition which AFAIK wasn't available on PC and once for PC.
And I am not a "hater" I am too much of a "fan boy" of MGS/Hideo Kojima to feel hate for this game...... however what I do feel for this game is disappointment.
And I'll play whatever I want, and as long as its on topic I'll post whatever I want:
