Yes, the next Kojima game. |
Doesn't need to go back to that formula. Initial impressions of the game were good, it's not until hours of playing that the cracks begin to show. If a potential MGS6 had a good story along with a much more interesting open world and no repetitive missions then I think people would be happy.

I know i'm repeating myself but I'm only 2H in it but it's a huge disappointment for me, I'm forcing myself to play this game because i'm a huge MGS fan.
I remember playing MGS2,3,4 for like 1 hour and couldn't stop putting the gamepad down until the end because I wanted to see the next cutscene. Some cutscenes were also really touching (MGS3 ending is EPIC, same as MGS4 final battle).
Here ? So far nothing is epic.
Also usually MGS intros are epic... This one ? The prologue is a big WTF, but it's no way the bridge jumping from MGS2 or the plane jumping from MGS3.
Also the music sucks compared to MGS2 and MGS3. But I see that HGW is just a producer so meh.
Not sure about the hype of this game, but this is hella repetitive. Kojima, leave the open world games to Rockstar, GTA 5 is a masterpiece because they managed to make the main story missions not repetitive.
In MGS5 ? I'm bored already at the 2nd mission, what the fuck ?

IMO the only way to make it really enjoyable is to make things hard for yourself and try to be as much stealthy as possbile - then it's really fun.
Turn off the map markers, don't use any buddies etc.

Yes and no : in previous MGS games, you had then rewarding cutscenes for playing stealthy. Here you rush through the game or not, there is no reward after that. You just go to your fucking motherbase and do another mission.

You can't, just like you cant turn off "youre going to extract him?" Every time you use fulton. Retarded. |
I just don't get the 10/10 IMO no game deserves a 10/10. There is always something wrong in a game, but this? I didn't finish it yet but I would rate it 8/10, maybe 8.5/10 highest.
Don't get me wrong I do enjoy the gameplay a lot since I'm a big stealth fan. But there are so many things that makes this an average game.
-The story. I didn't complete it yet but oh my. I understand that story was never the main focus of this game but even compared to 'average' games, the story is presented so badly. Most of the main missions feel like upgraded side missions and have nearly no connection to the main story (some intels but cmmon...). Cassettes are just poorly integrated.
Cutscenes are so rare and the quality of them is just bad. Snake nearly never talks and just stares at the others like he is f***** stupid. I know he is meant to be not talkative but this is just beyond stupid. A short 'yes' or 'I agree' or a nod would be totally okay but no. Stare of death. A silent protagonist with no opinions is just boring as shit.
Meet Skull face for the first time. Hmm okay I have nothing to say to him. Who are you? What do you want? Questions that doesn't interest snake
The name of the game 'metal gear solid' which stands for story isn't helping.
-Graphics are good. No complains here.
-Gameplay is very good and prevents this game being a flop. Many weapons, good customization, buddies with different strenghts, Mother base, looting, recruiting, smart AI and biggest plus: freedom.
But it isn't flawless either. The world is just empty. I mean the press often critisizes open world games with empy worlds, why not here? Where is the war? Small things are just annoying like the constant humming of quiet, the cover system and controls in general.
Things that makes me wonder how ppl can give this a 10/10. I just don't get it.

Yep, the only reward is fun. Motherbase system is boring as fuck - at least for me.
Is Forward Operating Base and invading any fun ?

+1 especially for empty world, but we've all already said that. There's nothing now other than to accept that this is not an MGS game, but it's got some good gameplay so let's get the most out of it

Another question is why did it take that much time to release the game? Its pretty empty and average.
Lets pray for Deus Ex 4 as another godlike game.

To add to what you said..
Kojima is gone. One of the reasons that it is said he is gone is that he took a lot of time and wasted a lot of money. In 2011 he announced he is making "Project Ogre" a "very open world" game where "players should still be able to find new sights and worthwhile adventures after having played the game for as many as 100 hours. Rather than making something very cinematic, [I plan to] make something very free." This is obviously MGSV (he even semi-confirmed it at some point).
Since Konami won't want the next MGS game to take 4 years to make they will likely copy paste MGSV, like WB Montreal copy pasted Batman: AC and released Batman: AO.
So like you said if they improve upon the gameplay and create a worthwhile story, it can be a very good game.
Also regarding the reviews, none of the reviewers in Konami's boot camp finished the game. A few managed to finish chapter 1 and that is by wearing the chicken hat. So they probably convinced themselves that something interesting will happen later / everything will make sense by the end and didn't experience themselves how hastily thrown together chapter 2 is.
TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."
"...like nothing else on television."
"a phenomenon."
"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."
"Like Nothing On Earth"

Finally some people who agree with me.
I think some of the hype here is that some people didn't play MGS3 or 4 since it never reached PC. Also, I remember MGS2 came out too late on PC and the hype was a bit down (at least for me, I found the PC version dated by the time it came out on PC).
Anyhow, I guess I'm gonna play some MGS HD Collection now

I had more fun when I started crawling around as Komodo Dragon.
They should really just have let us play as our Avatar from the start. Would make more sense. Fashion the story around that because Snake is just staring blankly at you.

i never expected a game to beat mgs3 for me anyway, so no big disappointment here, atleast i didnt have to sit through hours of failed attempts at forcefully connecting the whole franchise's story in one game like in mgs4.

I like the tactical shit especially when someone sees you you have the slowmo time to fuck him. Thats beautiful. Situations like that in Hitman and Splinter Cell are over faster than you can piss.
What I dislike high ten is the Afghanistan shit over and over again. What is that? Kojima wtf happened? Did he fall asleep for months and years after the Afghanistan stuff was done and so nothing else was made???
