So when i reboot my computer it starts making these weird sounds and my pc just stands still on the bios logo. It sounds like it tries to boot up something, but ultimately fails and automatically tries again and again and sometimes it works and it starts booting, but most of the times i have to shut the pc off and power up normally and it works. I don't have any issues at otherwise. Anyone recognize the issue? Naturally i'd wager my psu is dying and i need to have it replaced, but i sure wouldn't mind if that wasn't the case
You sure it's related to the PSU? I had this happen 4-5 times with my old system, and it got to a point in which only a CMOS reset would help so I thought it was related to my mobo or with my OC.
However my PSU died a month back so maybe you're right

it's 6 years old and it seems corsair have a 7 year warranty policy. But since this is so old, won't they claim it's wear and tear and tell me to buy a new one?

Ok, i'll make an order for a new cheap one. I don't need anything fancy. 5 hdd's, 770gtx, 4590k, so i guess a 550 should be sufficient. Don't really know anything when it comes to power usage. I always just bought something i knew would be good enough and never gave it a second thought

common for cheap chinacrap psus without sufficient protection (worst case is even a fire). "normal" psus up from lets say ~45 euros upwards from manufacturers like enermax,corsair, be quiet whatever usually dont do that. but even with those it can happen in rare cases

No offence but I would prefer others than Be Quiet PSUs. Also Corsair is just a brand so quality of different models varies a lot.
JonnyGURU & TechPowerUP (and maybe even Kitguru) are trusty places to check how good/bad reviewed PSUs are.

From my experience a lot of users had very bad experience with them and some of the units had very cheap electronics in them. Some models can surely be ok but I would still prefer japanese caps only-models.

be quiet had indeed a quality problem with one of their production lines a few years ago. but overall they are fine, even though i dont use or recommend them to others. just two days ago i got the old desktop of a friend, guess what? bequiet psu is dead but its 7-8 years old and wasnt used the last three years so not such a surprise
Just RMA it, it's still under warranty. You could still buy a new one if you feel like it.
And keep the replacement as extra.

Had a psu catch fire once before. Was relaxing on my sofa watching tv series when i suddenly smelled smoke, and of course smoke started rising from the computer. Was easy to identify the culprit as the psu had turned black
But i'm also sure the priciest psu's can catch fire in rare cases.

sure even the priciest can catch fire. but its common with the usual crap sold with names like combat power, xilence and whatever or the older lc power ones (the newer ones arent that bad, but still crap). marketing writes 750w on it. they reach it, but for 5 secs and then explode. even what seems uncritical 450w or whatever cant be delivered stable from these cheap fire crackers. and they dont have protection circuits -> thats what can and will kill your other hardware in case of failure.
sure i had had failures with psus in the past, but rare (in my personal pc only one time, and nothing happened besides the psu was dead, got a replacement which still works fine in another pc) and nothing happened. worst case a bit "eletronic" smell, nothing burned, just the usual smell you may know from the motors of old carrera cars or whatever when they heated up
I ran GTX 780 SLI @ 1200 core and 2700K @ 4,8GHZ on my 660W platinum seasonic unit without any problems. System could pull nearly 800W from wall when cards were overvolted in 3Dmark firestrike , fan barely started spinning on the PSU ... These top end PSU´s can deliver so much more wattage on lower efficiency rating if you push them (this unit can do like 850W loads). I have another PSU and its Corsair TX750M (based on V2 model a.k.a CWT), that could not handle the cards overvolted, PC just rebooted in 3Dmark firestrike. Anyway good choice the EVGA one, those G2 units are one of the best.
Seasonic's Platinums are fantastic PSUs as long as you get the one without coil whine. I had P-520 fanless and had to replace it because of it.
Even quality PSU can handle more than what it is specsed for it is not recommended to use them in that way in a long term. Choosing "overpowered" PSU is much better solution because the electonics inside can handle more power than what's PSU is using with your machine. This means that efficiency is so good so that electronics barely heat at all -> less noise if any.

Nope.
A good rule is: PSU wattage ~= 2x total system wattage under load, so the 750W will be more efficient than the 500W one.
