Release Date: August 25

Quote:
Evoland 2 is the spiritual successor to the original Evoland with its graphics style changing as you travel through time and it’s gameplay evolving as you move along the storyline. It is also a much bigger game and a classic RPG at heart, with a complex scenario based on time travel, dozens of characters with their own backgrounds and ambitions and vastly different gameplay styles that are linked to the story and the player’s actions.

Full of humor and references to classic games, the aptly named Evoland 2, A Slight Case of Spacetime Continuum Disorder will bring a truly epic and extraordinary adventure, unlike anything you’ve ever played before!

It almost reads like how Hotline Miami 2 expanded on HM1. Interesting Mr. Green

1 and 2 are still amazing.

Yep, it seems it's SCP causing it Sad Works fine on *most* xinput games, but doesn't work in this (or Wanderlust Adventures, nor *any* dinput titles whatsoever such as RPG Maker engine) God how I miss motioninjoy, best goddamn driver and BetterDS3 had the best tool as well. I *despise* this SCP bullshit, useless broken half-functioning trash written by an incompetent that doesn't give a shit enough to reply to questions or help requests. MIJ's driver always worked perfectly for me under XP, 7, 8 and 8.1. It's only 10 where it's started failing Crying or Very sad

Oh well, thanks for the confirmation Smile

I played some more last night and I'm really enjoying it Very Happy I haven't gotten to the genre switches yet, but even the base game at the start is damned fun \o/ The pic above is really strange though, what's the point in keeping the same 16bit-style pixel hud/UI when you switch to 32bit PS1 style worlds? That seems... odd.

(oh and others are having the dpad issues too, it seems - I just reinstalled MiJ for this game, can't stand using the analogue stick)

Update 4 is out now, again with no changelog Rolling Eyes Regardless, I'm having an absolute BLAST with this so far - it's a heck of a lot longer than the first game, and a lot more involved too. A proper full-fledged story that spans three time zones *and* half a dozen genres too Very Happy So far I've encountered;

The Legend of Zelda (NES/SNES era)
Zelda II - Link's Adventure (side-scrolling RPG)
Bomberman
Street Fighter
Chrono Trigger
Canabalt
<insert random aRPG from the PS1's enormous library of 3D puzzle-based aRPGs>
<insert random Japanese bullet hell vertical shooter here>

Possibly even more that I've missed too, heh.

Definitely play the first, it's a very different game to #2 and serves as more of a proof of concept idea. Short, but sweet, and fun Smile

~edit~

Now a River City Random/Streets of Rage style beat'em'up Very Happy

~edit~

Unlocked a collectible card game too! Shocked

~edit~

Pong, Snake, Pacman and Space Invaders and a Match3 gem puzzler

Aaaaaand a Gameboy era too, farrrrr back in the past, where you can also enter a time anomaly and... well... you'll see Wink Seriously creepy and cool area. Overall I'm really enjoying the game but there's a lot of frustrating moments in it, which I "guess" are all deliberate satirical nods about the equally frustrating parts in the games/genres they're aping in this.

*Frustrating platform segments where spikes cause instant death, forcing you to traverse half the level again.
*Cheating AI in the Match3 puzzler, where your moves cause a cascade that gives the opponent enormous advantages - not to mention one of the worst audio tracks I've ever heard.
*Annoying timers and forced escape sequences.
*The collectible card game is fun but it's also (to me) very difficult to actually collect better cards as your opponents get progressively better, while you're still stuck with weak cards.

One thing that's less fun right now is the time travel mechanic, you can only switch between eras at specific points (the Magiliths) and those are sometimes blocked over depending on the era you're in, necessitating annoying treks across half the world in order to get to the next Magilith, switch to a different era, then move BACK to the older Magilith you wanted to access.

~edit~

And now Fire Emblem-style sRPG too grinhurt

I was playing this (without knowing anything about it) and I almost gave up due to the boring "a link to the past copy-paste but with only the sword" gameplay. Didn't realize the game "switched genres" as you go on... or are the others you mention just sub-quests / minigames? If they're not, you rekindled my interested in the game...

Mostly just minigames, some are fairly extensive but most are just short one-shots though there's a lot of platforming.

my GF was cursing yesterday night about the Strategy & Guitar Hero Parts (she hates both "gamemodes") but that didn`t stop her to spend all her free time on the game.Fantastic piece of software, way better than the first one

The strategy one wasn't that bad, the mages were the worst due to their 100dmg 3x3 area of effect attack -- I *was* raging like a fucknut over the Guitar Hero minigame at first, until I remembered that I still had the 1.5x cheat engine "speedhack" enabled. Oops. Turning that off for the GH game made it eleventy gabillion times easier and far more manageable.

Oh and the card game became a *lot* easier when I found some plot cards during gameplay, stuff with more oomph than the 1hp/1dmg shit I'd had before, now I can actually play the game properly so I've been wandering the world with the "Everything Under the Sun-dar" looking for missing cards \o/

~edit~

HOLY FUCK. The Guitar Hero battle can be played over again later in the game, two music tracks each with "easy" and "hard" versions. Ghost Hard was a friggin' finger-breaking nightmare

~edit~

Finished it after just over 23 hours, though I'd take away 1-2 hours for random idling/alt-tabbing. Damned good game, lousy ending Sad 88.3% completion (35/61 cards, only Fina had her lv3 power, Menos and Velvet had Lv2, and with 26/30 Stars) I really had a blast with this, there was so much humour and fanservice and the gameplay itself was absolutely top-notch, it's just a shame that the ending took a huge dump on the game and 3/4 of the story was left unexplained or detailed. Oh well. Game itself was brill though Smile
