This expansion has always looked stupid to me. To base an expansion around an entire character class seems like it'll throw off the balance since everyone will wanna play this special forces class now, and we'll just have a bunch of SF guys running around playing deathmatch.

Or am I wrong?

Uh actually Special Ops was already a regular class in regular bf2.

My take on the HELOs. Keep in mind, while I don't consider myself the best pilot out there, I rank within the top 150 during my "urges" of play (which last anywhere from a day to a week of 10+ hours a day before I get bored of it again). Thus, I know a bit of em heh.

Spetznaz/Rebel HINDs - Horrid. Absolutley, positively, unfuckindeniably horrid. They handle like the MI28+5000 tons of weight. While they may be tough, manuvering them is like trying to skate in an icerink while sitting in a bathtub. Someone shoves you, and you eventually slow down..but as far as any measure manuverability..none. However, its LIFT capability seems very high, as in if you throttle up, you rise faster than your allied Counterpart Apache Longbow. While this may make up for it somewhat, you are still at a manuverability disadvantage in a firefight with an Apache.

US/SAS Apache Longbow - I wet myself. Repeatedly. This thing handles ALMOST like the SuperCobra from BF2, but with just a tad bit more weight. Also, it is of course bigger (must take this into account while strafing/turning in narrow alleys). However, its tougher than its Cobra, its rockets pack hella more of a punch, and are faster than in regular BF2 (all helo rockets in SF are faster/more powerful, but you cant fire them off quite as fast, and they aim a little funky).
Thus, what we have here ladies and gentlemen, is the solo pilots DREAM helicopter. Gunner, you are now no longer needed nor contribute in any way, sorry Razz
Heh, just kidding. It does put alot more power at the hands of the pilot though.
Within 2 minutes on a 64 player Gator Iron map..I racked up close to 50 points in strafing runs. Finished the round with 90 Razz

Miscellaneous: Helo capable maps seem to contain much less Anti Air than in regular BF2. Great for us pilots, really shitty for the guys in the ground. HOWEVER, most helo capable maps require precision manuvering on the pilots part in order to be able to strafe any infantry NOT on a rooftop. Tons of narrow alleys/poles/other obstructions to fook ya up the minute you get sloppy.

Nightvision + Helo: Looks cool, in practicality it has its ups and downs. The biggest down being that many obstructions are BLACK, thus if you don't know they are there in the first place, you'll most likely fly into them thinking its empty airspace. But again, black&white nightvision + apache + Leviathan Map = goodness Smile

A note on the TV Guided missles: The placement of the FLIR seems to be noticeably higher on all SF copters. As in, the pilot must be pointing even further up of where the target actually is in order for the gunner to have a shot. Thus, don't get mad at your pilot for strafin instead of letting ya TV, as he most likely THINKS you have a shot, when in reality you do not. It may be a bit before everyone figures this out.

My two cents.

well im not getting it.

I bought BF2, I played a bit till the patch went out. Since then i cant play at all. I even formatted all my HD for this game and didnt change nothing. I can play with the original version but there is no server online.

Anyway this is not tech forum, I just wanna say thats BS, the game still has some bug and they release an expansion. I rather support Activision with CoD 2 than EA shit.

Remember that it isnt Dice who made the Battlefield 2 that releases the Special Forces add-on its Dice Canade that release that, so they can work on the bugs in Special Forces and Dice on the bugs in BF2.

Ok here goes for a little mini-review of the expansion (and yes I bought it Razz)

General gameplay:
feels somewhat strange for some reason. The good flow from BF2 is totally gone with everybody using flash/teargas all the time. Most new "teams" have nothing new except skins. Everyone on all servers tries to get into SAS, SEAL or whatever instead of recistance. Why? Because recistance forces only have the standard MEC shit from BF2.

Weapons:
Most of the new weapons are kinda lame and adds almost nothing to the game. A nice touch though is that the SF weapons can be used as unlocks in standard BF2.

Equipment:
The grappling hook and the Zipline is a nice addition to the game. I would really like to have them in standard BF2. Teargas and flashbangs is kinda fun for a while. After that they only get annoying.

Night maps:
I hate them. Dark all the time and you have to switch the NV off and on all the time. Running around with NV is very disturbing too. All green all the time. hate it. The funniest maps in the expansion are those few day maps.

Conclusion:
I play SF for an hour or so feels that it sucks and plays vanilla BF2 again. Thinks "bah I just gotta get used to it. Lets play 1h more". I do that and I still don't like it. Waste of money IMHO. On the other hand the extra unlocks in vanilla BF2 is a nice touch.
Still not worth the money for the game.

Behold his GLORY! Bow for the technical master!

Thanks for the review, was thinking about getting it myself but honestly, i was sceptical about the teargas and nightmaps, not a huge fan of them from before either.... it doesnt fit the BF2 theme, especially not with those things they have focused on.
I will see if i'll get it myself or if i will just skip it.

My take on the addon is that people are putting too much focus on whats been ADDED, rather than whats actually changed! BF2 is all about tactics, without them your team may win, but with them your team (or squad at least) will utterly own.. Now SF may add some new weapons, night maps and such, but what it really does is add battle area's which are far more compact and tactical than the maps in the original game..

Take an average BF2 map (apart from maybe the one map which has a town decent town in it..) - The fight is always about getting from flag to flag, getting in the chopper and mowing people down with the guns.. wide open spaces with long range, man on man battles.. Yeah its fun, but the tactics are mostly involved around "where to go next"

SF Maps - Almost all of the maps are smaller, they also have more intrecate designs, places to hide, duck around a corner and plan your next move.. The game is no longer centered around "get flag after flag till you win" - Its more about, get a flag and defend it while people try to flash bang you sitting on a building then climb up behind you using a grapple hook taking you out, hoping you dont manage to escape or kill them first..

I dunno, the addon isnt great, it doesnt bring anything that I feel I should have payed for (although I did).. it does bring a new level to the game (one which should of been a patch) .. Either way it was a good move and I certainly find the new maps more entertaining and action packed than the old ones!

Have to disagree with all the hate. As primarily a helo pilot, I love it. No more dumb motherfuckers ramming jets into me, or slowing jets down to 3mph, gunning me down, and then crashing themselves into mountains.

In in Apache...I am king of the world. The oposition doesn't stand a chance. Leviathan, Iron Gator, Ghost Town, all they are is a fucking turkey shoot for me, total bliss Smile

From the point of view of your average grunt, I really enjoy the grapple hook / zipline. Prettymuch anything you can see, you can get to now. The enemy can come from ANYWHERE. Have to keep on your toes and have 360 degree awareness now, or you get a bullet in the head quick. Flashes are great for clearing out rooms in the Palace on Warlord, or the carrier on Iron Gator. Teargas, well, I find it useless as on the non night maps I keep the mask equipped the entire time (it looks cool, and it gives it that Commando kick ass feel ya know? Smile

I agree it may not be worth $30, but it does add a new dimension to the game. To each his own.

I have the damn feeling this clone comes from one who knows the guy from gamekeystore.com or even himself and now he registers here under different names and advertises his online business.

first a template by a new member - than one asks where to buy just a key - than aguy who mentions this shop... call me sherlock... I could be wrong but I doubt it.

Erm, don't know what you're talking about, but I just made this template because no-one else was willing to do it, if you think I have more accounts on this site just ask a moderator if he can do a ip-check or some (if that's possible) and you will see I haven't registered on any other name;). Maybe others do, but I don't.
