hello members, i got 1 important question to ask all of u so plz help me out.
near my house there is a libary for college people its a california state university. the libary has a 100MBIT lan connection no firewall or anything! just plug in the ethernet cable and bam! 100mbit..i went to the libary today and leech around 1000kb upload 2000kb and it was fast as heck.
ok the question is ! if i am connected to their 100mbit can they track my ip down? will they know i am downloading stuff that are illegal? if they do wat happend to me? and if they can track my ip down what program should i use to defend my piracy? plz help i dont wanna lose my 100mbit connection :X its so fast!
1 more thing
... there are like atleast 100 tables for laptop user to get connected to the internet @ that libary and i think its all the same ip that ppl connected to... my point is the libary is hella big 8th floor and it has a private room for student to go in and use their laptop for research + the ip are the same...so ...i d k?
so basicly 100+ (tables) ethernet cable for every 1 and same ip..can they still track u down?

You know theres an administrator somewhere in that building watching that line.
I wouldnt worry about being tracked over the net, but rather by the library itself.

Set up a wireless reciever outside the library, mask it with camoflague and shit, dig down a tp-cable to your house connected to the reciever, mask your ip, go CRAZY.

the one info that is important is if you have to give any credentials to log in, or can anybody just connect?
If anybody can, the best way would be to use wireless connection, so you cannot be traced that easily to a physical location. I still wouldnt go crazy with the downloads though, as if you overdo it, they might check up on it still. If they are logging traffic they can get evidence against you via the mac-adress of your wireless card, and they could still block that on router-level if you fuck around too much. Best way would be to switch your wlan-card from time to time, if you have two available. Else restrain yoruself on the pr0n-downloads abit

FYI: Using wireless will cut the speed of your connection.
G - 50MBIT so your only going to get half the speed that you would being wired in, and thats assuming both you and the libary use G.
As for you being tracked down, Lutzifer pretty much nailed it, so long as your not inputting any information you should be ok on that front. If you have to "book" the rooms they will be able to tell which IP (and which room) is using the bandwidth and will be able to find you internally. Aside from that there isnt much they can do. The connection could however be part of an academic network which means it will span across the country rather than just being in the building, this could lead onto bigger things as it wont be the admin of the building trying to find out, but the admin of the entire network. I would say your safe so long as you keep it cool and limit what you do.
Don't upload too much, don't download too much and stay clear of bandwidth hogging protocols.

I'm certain that internet connection is only to be used for academic work. So if you download or upload too much they'll notice you pretty quickly.
Worst that could happen is they expel you from the university. But more likely they'll just restrict your internet access if they catch you.

Do you actually go to the university or just live close to it? Personally I wouldn't risk it if I went to school there, a handful of warez isn't worth my expulsion. However, if you don't, upload to the max...I need better speeds. lol
