I'm so bored and hungry to play something.

Is there any MMO that's good out there ? I value exploration the most. That's what I loved about WoW: travelling around all the zones and enjoying the views.

Any Sandbox mmos ?

Supposedly TSW is meant to be one of the best, especially for exploration and game world, with quests that are more than just "go here, kill this, get 16 silver pieces" stuff Very Happy

Only EVE Online comes to mind to me, but then you have an extreme disconnection to your character, and it's space, so if that's not your thing.... yeah....

Guild Wars 2 if WoW satisfied your exploration (many more out there, but I enjoyed GW2 the most). It has some fun jump puzzles that are off the path.

And purely for Exploration sake: I loved that part in The Elder Scrolls: Online. They had quite a few interesting bits that you only get to by exploring.

Archage wasn't too bad, but I prefer the other two better since it had more meaningful things to explore.

If you don't mind older games (they usually have bigger worlds): SWG Emu, maybe even: EQ2, Anarchy Online, Age of Conan,...

Elder Scrolls Online perhaps and it's free to play too for a quick look without any costs but you are limited to just your factions key areas in terms of exploration and the other two are explored as Veteran (Think New Game+) instances, only the Imperial race can choose faction allegiance too without the Adventure Kit purchase from the online store.

Doesn't have all of Tamriel either currently, Elseweyr is missing entirely for one thing and the Imperial city is just now being made available via the first expansion kit.

Rift is still said to belong to the best and has a very fair f2p model. Looking at Youtube and the forums it still seems to be very active after all those years. Might actually start playing it again next month. Very Happy

A few weeks ago i bought a key for SWTOR for like 2,5€. Which allows me to play without any limitations for 30 days. But after that it seems to be pay2enjoy.

Guild Wars 2 - Very nice exploration. Variety of zones. Great music. Group events are good as well. And, the community ain't bad.

Elder Scrolls Online - same as above. The combat is not so good, but enjoyed exploring every bit of it.

The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.

Final Fantasy XIV is pretty great if you don't mind the subscription. I don't think I've played an MMO more packed with mechanics and shit to do. I highly suggest you try it out, you're either hooked from the first hour or not, there's a free trial and it's not as big of a download as ESO or TSW.

ESO and TSW do have one advantage over it, and that's side-quests - they are fully voiced and more fleshed out, but FFXIV beats them in every other regard.

FFXIV takes FOREVER to get into the 'meat' of the game IMO. And the new character stuff is so longwinded it bores me silly after an hour.

FFXIV's problem is the exploration... It's not even exploration light.
While a good game for atmosphere and it being the FF world, I wouldn't recommend it for someone who likes exploration (invisible walls and still pretty much 'corridor' like in design).

Is GW2 still alive? Laughing I remember logging in several months ago and it was pretty deserted. Well, at least low-mid level areas. That's quite understandable , of course, but it could be tough and boring for a new player.

PS I absolutely hate GW2 setting... it's so..I dunno..childish?

GW2 has token tranny NPCs now, you'd think that would have boosted player numbers. The game fails as a MMO*RPG* because once you hit level cap there is no character progression to speak of, nothing to grind for, nothing to look forward to - the things that keep people going in games like this.

Rift has its own slew of problems but as far as theme park MMOs go it's the best of the bunch (haven't played ESO tho). Plus it has a really fair F2P model.

For story, exploration and quests, Elder Scrolls Online and The Secret World are hard to beat. Since I value those just as much as combat if not more, those two are the ones I love the most.

Star Trek Online can be fun too since you level up REAL quickly and you basically can play through hundreds of stories but the main problem here, is that a lot of it is pretty poorly done - only the later missions and story lines have some real creativity to them and that was done by a different team.

Its buy to play with no trial.

as for exploration its decent but I felt the vista's were kind of ruined by the all encompassing distance fog. the 'mod' that removes the fog just makes the game look fugly as hell sadly. Quests are at least of a somewhat higher caliber than your average mmo.

I don't mean to hijack the thread but are there any MMORPGs that are RPGs? Starting areas for different races, no hand holding, freedom?

Only Wurm comes to mind. At least as far as "no-handholding & freedom" are concerned. But the visuals are a huge turnoff for a lot of people. And it's pretty much a must to have a dedicated group of people you play with to get the most out of the game.

You should indeed try Rift and put some effort in it.
It's a proper MMO imo.
I would play it if I had more time to spend on gaming Sad

When did you try it? Initially it was shit (as far as I know) but after the A Realm Reborn update, and Heavensward it feels pretty good - excellent in fact.

A couple of weeks ago. No Voice overs, small maps.. And I've read some opinions in the FFXIV thread that shared similiar opinion. I didn't play long though - 1-2 hours.

I'm so bored though that I just might give it another chance, as there's a free trial Wink

EDIT: yeeah.. the world looks really claustrophobic.

If you care about voice overs and quests then go for ESO or TSW.

ESO by far has the most content, separate huge areas for each of the three alliances. I had about 130h of questing in just the first alliance zones - which is usually what most MMOs have throughout all zones. Quests are good compared to other MMOs.

TSW also has voiced quests like ESO, but much less content, although individual zones are bigger. The quests themselves are more interesting and require thought. However I don't know how is the game doing player wise, I have a feeling it's slowly dying out.

Problem with both ESO and TSW I feel is that neither are traditional MMOs. They both focus on quests and story, which is fine if you're into that sort of thing, but everything else is bland. When it comes to raiding, pvp and in general end game stuff, there's better MMOs out there. Rift being one of them, although I think the quests are of the generic variety with no voice overs (was a while since I played).

SWTOR has a nice balance of proper MMO stuff and story, but the amount of content is very limited. Class stories are all unique but leveling up multiple characters to experience the stories forces you to repeat the same zones and side-quests over and over. And I've actually tried it with the 12x xp boost just to experience the class stories, and they aren't all that good on their own to experience.

GW2 is probably the most sandboxy of the bunch. Very limited story but a lot of stuff to do just running around and exploring the world. Although there's not much to do in end-game, although I haven't really delved into it too much. It's probably the most unique of all the mentioned games.

Currently FFXIV is what I'm enjoying the most. While most MMOs will just force me to quest to progress here I have a nice variety of choice. Some days I'll just spend gathering and/or crafting leveling up those jobs and selling stuff on the market, other days I'll run around completing challenges and events leveling up my company rank, and some days I'll just spend the whole day gambling in the casino or finding good fishing spots.
