Good work Funcom, fucking up your image from The Longest Journey and Anarchy Online. Well done. Truly. I knew they'd never touch a big budget project again after the mediocre experience that was The Secret World right after the average Age of Conan. Every known dev in their company started leaving, too, which was a bad omen of things to come for them.
Demoted to lego games lol, and now they must be merged or be purged.
They were going to make an MMO called Midgard (Viking Theme'ish) after Anarchy Online, a more sandbox game with players building settlements, crafting, long-ships, trading and fighting versus other players etc. But they opted not to, and instead went to do Age of Conan and TSW.
Things could have been different for them, then again, it is easy to be captain hindsight now so that's all I'm gonna say hehe.
It's a damned shame. I have a deep rooted respect for Funcom as they were/are one of the only developers that had the balls to risk doing something different in the MMO genre. That, and they NEVER catered to the ratings board - M rated all the way. This alone is excuse enough to cut them some slack when it came to their rocky launches.
I'm going to miss AOC and TSW, despite the fact that I haven't really played either in a while. At least I'll have the memories.

i would do a secret world play since i only reached the egypt beginning 2y ago, but cant find updated builds which are nicely and thoroughly explained
Why should that matter? Just figure out your own build. That right there is the problem with the MMO playerbase today - everyone wants their hand held, no one is wiling to spend a few days figuring things out for themselves. Hell, it's not like this is Path of Exile where a calculator, spreadsheet, and sextant are necessary to navigate the "tree".
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

There are FEW settings on this world better than Hyboria and Conan for an MMO. Full of silly but rich lore, brutal dog eats dog world. Many nice races - also low fantasy. The perfect setting.
This is where they went wrong.
TSW is a wonderful game, the most time spent in an MMO, I have spent there.
somehow i doubt this will affect tsw/aoc/ao. The fact that they keep those games running, means that they still generate "some" money. So they are of some interest to someone out there. Also so far it's not clear what will happen, but if FunCom remains in some way or another, i'm sure they'll keep the servers running as well.
I really enjoyed it tbh. The setting, the atmosphere, the quests were great. It's a pity the combat sucked. They should have released it as a single-player RPG with co-op support

Sadly, I imagine the ARG's they play on occasion wont't happen any more, probably not worth the time for other companies.

What happens to your IPs and live games if you can not continue?
"We strongly believe that no matter the outcome of the process, at an absolute minimum, our live games will continue running either by us or someone else as they are generating profit. These are high quality games with strong communities that we respect and care about, and regardless of how the future looks, we are confident these games will live on for a long time to come."
I wouldn't even play it for free. The combat, which is the most crucial part of any MMO, is absolutely awful with horrible animations and it has no sense of impact when hitting the enemy. The gameplay itself is utterly boring and repetitive.
The game looks decent on pictures, but is actually a real chore to play.
What does it matter, it's pretty much a single-player game anyway.
Besides its simply not true, each time I go to Agartha, there are at least 30 people there + people in london + in fusang + whoever is actually doing missions.
I recently completed the game and now I'm sad I know they promised a new story arc but somehow I doubt it'll reach the quality of their earlier content.

Any way of seeing what content you've done before and whats left incomplete or been added since you left? I never finished the main story. Stopped at a mission in the vampire area where you had to walk above some monsters and they violently raped me each and every time. Would love a way to see what's new.
