I can't even seem to get Cortana to work even if I wanted to. Laughing All I have is a magnifying glass and can only make local windows searches. Don't mind it though as I hated the search bar I've seen in videos. Or am I wrong and it's still on somehow in the background? Looking around in privacy settings and I have this thing "get to know me" which I tought would activate it, but it didn't so I turned it off again. Wink

If searchui.exe is running, she is running, and very much alive, you just dont have the region settings to do a proper search.

installer from usb works either with fat32 or ntfs formated sticks. but you will get problems with selfmade wims for installation which are bigger than 4gb with fat32 cause of filesystem limitations. for "normal" installations (i.e. images from ms or the ms tool) it doesnt matter at all though. think the official ms tools uses ntfs

But you can install win 10 on a uefi motherboard in legacy mode right? So i mean just like the old bios in mbr. I dont wat to use gpt partitions.

Oh so it's not working at all in some regions? Thought it was just a bit crippled in certain regions, sort of like Google Now where you can't get voice search in some languages and it can't give the same responses it can in other areas etc. Could be the case then. But I can't seem to find a searchui, only a search running. Maybe the same thing though?

then do it! ffs, its like any other major windows update (so not 8.0 to 8.1). things may fuck up hard if you dont clean install it!

I know. For some insane reason I was supposed to update to Windows 10 before I could create clean Win10 US B/ISO-media. However, I've read enough to know that Win10 is still buggy as a Volkswagen rebuilt for the beach.

But I'll do a clean reinstall sometime this week (and suffer the bugs until then) and see if it makes a difference.

besides the problem with the recent folders which seem to be very uncommon (maybe caused by faulty usb device for installation, dunno. reinstalled with a different image and stick) i had no problems till now. and yes not that good that you are forced to upgrade ur licenses with a real upgrade from 7 to 10 before you can clean install (image download is possible before that though, you can use that image to force upgrade when windows update doesnt show up)

the update is required only if you have a legit windows. It will mark your win7/8/8.1 key to be eligible to be used with Windows 10.
After this update you 'should' be able to to a clean install. (They obviously could have done this million different ways but...)

If you have pirated version, you'll need to activate it anyway on clean install. KMSpico works wonders. (if you update a pirated version, the activator stays installed)

So another one of those was it there before type of things I have noticed, this is more to do with tracking what you do not features.. er feature I guess it is deemed as by them.

Anyway regarding web cookie tracking and all that with what videos you watch on the tube and so forth, I always only noticed this would happen when you were logged into say google/tube etc etc, it would always give you items you might want to watch.

Well I have not logged into any of those on this system yet and yet youtube is filling up with recent video game genres of what I have been viewing. I thought (i don't pay attention to how it works) it was mainly from what your profile is logged in as but is this not the case and has always been this way or is this the new windows 10 background spying shit going on Very Happy

edit: just a heads up as well if you upgraded and not fresh installed and unpark your cores with the many unpark tools out there recheck using the tool you use because I noticed for me they were parked again Very Happy

Look for the searchui.exe on the details tab on taskmanager, it will not show up on the general view. The only way to get rid of cortana is to kill this process, even if your not in a supported region, she will still be up and running with this background process.

Ehm I just read news that we'll see unified xbox and pc games until end of this year. Did somebody mention it here already? Microsoft apparently updated their compilers which would make it possible to offer new games on xbox and windows 10. You'll buy one key for the game and play it either on an xbox or windows PC.

That'd mean that we might also get Forza and all future "exclusive" xbox titles for PCs! Shocked

If the AAA Developers decide to actually compile their games for PC and do the additional QA (which's overhead is much bigger on PC due to very custom hardware base), then yes, you might've bought it for nothing

Ok, nvm, apparently ATI's drivers were stupid, and pixel format was dumb (and overscaling like wtf is this shit!?)

So, if anyone can give me a quick rundown on how this upgrade works.

Do I need to be on win 7,8,8.1 before upgrading to windows 10 or can I do a clean install and use a windows 8 key?

nope, you need to upgrade first. your hardwareidhash and your key will be saved online flagged as upgraded. once upgraded you can install clean (do not enter a key then) and it will activate automaticly with a generic key

Upgraded my laptop, no where NEAR as bad as 8 or 8.1 I can actually get use to it I think.

My only question is anyone know how to turn down off the box icon, or the alphabetical sort title of the start 'all apps'. Its a bit retarded I can see maybe 5 'apps' tops.
Some way to set it to stop showing me huge letters of what it starts with, and if its 'new':

Old windows7 one took up a lot less space to see whats installed:

The new one:

in this space, using the old listing way I could see maybe 20+ program folders, vs the 7 now.
I can only imagine how much scrolling the window will have once you get 50+ things installed if this is the only view option it has.

This, was surprised also that there were no way to put those "Favourite/Recently Opened programs-elements" like in W7 (Whenever you try to drag something from desktop to the W7's start menu, it was "stucked" at the top half list.. In W10 (at job's laptops) it was like "NOPE!,only the big tiles at the right side, BEEYATCH)

Guess we'll have to wait for perfection with Start10? http://www.stardock.com/products/start10/index.asp

Yeah, on work I have HDMI in one display on my laptop, and other display is on vga.

So my update went well... Kinda grinhurt

I changed those registry settings, back at home, and I went to update, and now I'm on win10 pro...

But I have no key xD And stupid windows messed up my password so I had to reset it :\

Also I'm getting a image 'flash' once in a while. I'll update my gpu drivers and see if this will fix it.

I found a site where guy sells legit windows keys for lower prices, was wondering to buy a key from there, do any of you have any kind of experience with this?
