all files are virus affected? - I've seen this problem on the computer before when it does'nt list items in the device manager... Check whats running in the system processes.

Anything unusual in there? post a screen shot if you're not sure...im almost certain when I fixed the computer it was a file that loaded with the computer when it started up.
Get startup control panel -> www.mlin.net and see what starts with the computer and disable anything that looks dodgey.
wouldnt delete files tho unless you know what they are etc...
