Ultima VIII is free atm. Excellent game even if its far from the best in the series.

Maybe they'll close the servers after 3 years. 
Think it's dropping a 'bad ' name (which they made bad) for better main brand recognition (which also has a bad rep ). |

The Origin branding does not exist on consoles, so it makes sense to use something that exists on all 3 platforms.

Origin, the platform, does not exist on consoles so it makes no sense to force them to use Origin accounts, like some games do as you said. What IS Origin the confused console gamer asks??
An EA account for all platforms makes more sense.

The new 9.10.1 (beta?) version of Origin added support for D3D12 for it's overlay functionality, wonder if that means a upcoming game (For example Battlefront 3) will make use of the new DirectX version?
(Could just be added for future compatibility too of course.)

Why would you even consider to use it?
The only reason is if some EA game can only be used with Origin. But then there is no choice if you want or don't want to use it.
