nanana, i already see the people whining in two weeks. same goes for those who used kmspico or similar ways to activate their windows. ms isnt dumb. after official release you will instantly get watermarked. and isos from esd 10240 cant upgrade older win version that way a clean install will be available after launch, so you will need to reinstall your old windows, upgrade that to the lastet versions and then upgrade to 10. ms doesnt want to provide isos of this cause they dont want to get the rtm leaked before, for sure they know people build isos from esd so they will have included some checks which will result in not properly activated windows licenses
If you upgrade from W7/W8...will your key turn into a W10 one that you can use to install a clean W10 later or, or will it require you to install your old windows when ever you need to reinstall?
Edit: I think ive asked this before but at the time nobody seemed to know..
clean install will be available after you upgrade your windows once from a 7 or 8.1. old license doesnt get deactivated, nor does it transform into a w10 key. but ofc you are not allowed to use a win 10 and old 7 or 8.1 simultaneous. still ms hasnt said how everything works, we will see on 29th

well still dont think this is the case.. MS changed their system to Windows as Service, so I think at 29/7 we will see another normal update.
They will update windows even after 29/7 much faster then in 8.1, cause now its service
and I dont think ppl will reinstall their OS like one in a month etc..

I've actually investigated this on a virtual machine and it looks like anyone using the rtm build will be assigned the same product key. Even if they install it on top of their legitimate Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 build.
There is no 'upgrade' path to Windows 10 until after the 29th.
Soooo to those lucky ones who got the RTM... How does it feel?...BEtter than 7?,worse?...Details please!

Quite funny, I tried to use the XBOX ONE streaming function of Windows 10 and since it relies on the controller connected to your PC rather than your XBONE, you can basically use any controller as long as you trick it being a XINPUT controller.
That way, I managed to play some Forza using my Dual Shock 4, even vibrations works
I'm not sure there are tools to emulate keyboard/mouse to XINPUT (xbox360/xbone gamepad), but if there is, that's a way to use mouse/keyboard on XBONE and pwn noobs on Halo Collection.
you could try VJoy Virtual Joystick Driver or PPJoy to get the Mouse as D-Input and on top trying x360ce to convert that to xinput. and ofc it needs the controller plugged into the pc, thats the only reason why they have done that streaming thing -> console living room -> pc workingroom or sth else. now stream the picture from the living room to the workingroom and controller should be connected to the xbox?
Windows 8/8.1 did this already, opening a windows store link in ANY browser opens the windows 8/8.1 store on your pc.
Don't see any problem with that :\

Decided to upgrade early, nothing too problematic so far but it'll take some time before I re-adjust to having a normal start menu again and not the start screen (Though it can be enabled if desired but I prefer the start menu.) also not having full control over certain OS features is a bit annoying such as you can't turn off Windows Defender fully (Setting for that makes it clear that it'll be re-enabled after a few days.) and for Windows Update I prefer to have Windows notify me both for download and install whereas here it was either auto update or auto download and then notify but on the Pro edition this could be fixed via the group policy editor so it's back to how I want it. (Though the behavior where it might automatically restart after updating - if the system is idle - is probably still active but not much of a concern now since I control when it scans for and downloads updates.)
Interface is a little bit different (Some ass decided to move part of the setting to the "settings" screen and other parts to the control panel, control panel also can't be used for Windows Update as that has to be done from the settings menu now.) but I'm slowly getting used to it.
No problems during the upgrade either but I'm planning a PC upgrade next spring if possible and will do a more clean install then, seems MS has three branches for Windows 10 currently with the first being this build although it will change a bit more before the actual release on the 29th (The most recent known build should be 10240.16389 whereas this is 10240.16384) and then there's a update (mini service pack or what to call them now.) planned for Autumn (Build 10300 something I think the last known one was.) and finally there's another such update planned for spring at build 10500 something as the current known version.
Sounds like a good idea to move the iso contents onto a USB drive and keep updating it when Microsoft releases new ESD containers or maybe even actual ISO files.
(There's already a couple of important updates for this build but they were all downloaded and handled during the OS install.)
Drivers also all transferred over though I had to remove the Realtek audio one (The motherboard soundcard I use as a back-up should the Asus one die.) to the newest W10 build of R2 7.89(?) "7560" and the AMD drivers were also switched out to WDDM 2.0 compatible ones so I had to upgrade those to the 15.7 Windows 10 driver build.
Definitively the quickest and most problem free OS install/upgrade I've done.
(Kept most of my existing OS settings as well but I had to tweak a few things, all files also transitioned over from the Documents and Program folders without issue.)

Which doesn't open the appstore automatically in Chrome here.
Odd, I can clearly recall opening a link somewhere before for an app to download and it opened the store automatically.. but now it doesn't anymore it seems.. I'm 110% positive it happened to me at least once before though.

Maybe you clicked a registered app link? Sort of like clicking "steam://" links in the browser opening a Steam page/etc? In this case this is a standard http:// address that opens the App Store in Win10 but not Win8.
@Jbeckman How do you manage with those bright white windows? I found it highly annoying how I couldn't change the colours of the window frames - having that bright white contrast on the windows gives me a headache!
Since they removed the option of changing the window frame colours in 10, opting instead having apps changing them to whatever colour they want on the fly - if they're compatible with the new api.
Thats really my major issue with the OS, and currently it's a deal breaker.
I didn't think about it much initially but now during the night when it's mostly dark in the room the window brightness is certainly noticeable particularly against the darker desktop I use and the near black start menu / taskbar list.
I wasn't aware you couldn't change it but I did notice that the customization screen didn't offer that much for window backgrounds and the like, mostly the desktop background and the lock screen during boot-up when you log in and you can choose a color for a few of the start menu elements and if this applies to the whole taskbar or not.
Haven't followed the development of Windows 10 much either but I do know they offered various tweaks via the registry earlier which have since been removed such as re-enabling the old Windows Update interface from the control panel but I guess a program using this new API will be needed to get full customization back.
(Or an app if Microsoft was to decide, wanting to expand and control via the MS store, more apps now that are permanent as well and some that are not also seem to reinstall if you remove them.)
Hopefully Microsoft will be better at listening both to bug reports and general feedback (You can even opt in - or out rather - to send feedback to MS and allow them to collect usage and telemetry data, can't disable all of it though for those wanting to do that.) anyway the best would probably be if more people brought it up and MS took note of it and altered this feature in a future update since as far as I've read Windows 10 is meant more as a constantly updated service with the current plans being to support the OS until 2025 at least.
(There already seems to be a lot of discussion around consistency of various UI elements but who knows what Microsoft will actually choose to implement or change and when though I'd imagine that a year or so from now Windows 10 will have changed a fair bit from this first release.)

will I be able to update (via Windows Update, not upgrade) Windows 10 Build 10240 x64 to the GA build, once it releases on 29th of July?
Not sure i completely understand your question. Do you mean can i update to the "finished" version people can buy once it releases july 29th?
if that is your question then my understanding is that 10240 is the rtm build, that means it essentially is the build people get when they buy it on july 29th. I'm sure there will be day one updates/patches and so on but afaik 10240 is what people will get it's just that insiders get it earlier to test and also as a reward for testing is my guess.
