Probably motherboard and two videos cards are dead.
Nice smell in my entire room. Had one side of the case open so I was able to caught a glimpse of fire and quickly unplugged from power source but I guess everything went to shitter.
God fucking damnit, I want to scream and shout.

How do things work in such cases with the warranty? All the components are still new/very recent so I imagine/hope they'll be covered, right? (A similar thing happened to me too some years ago, but my hardware was ancient and sadly had to deal with it)

ahh well nothing better then a little fire in the middle of the night coming straight out of your fricking pc.
hope you got warrenty or some kind of insurance or atleast a well payed job!

I got old motherboard laying around. Gonna test video cards tomorrow.
Motherboard is still under 30 days warranty period with Amazon. So will put it as defective item. If video cards are dead too, will probably dismantle all water cooling and return that as well.
Not sure how evga is with such stuff?
I don't know. My cpu temps were fine, around 40c and I did notice my vcore temps were 60c. But anyway. Something happened to my first pump and at first I didn't make anything of it. So I opened the side case and I already smelled something but shrugged it off. It wasn't until second pump went out about minute later and that's when stuff caught on fire.
Ehh, I guess if video cards are still okey tomorrow then I guess everything went better than expected?

Man that sucks.
I guess the good thing is that your data is intact, that's the biggest concern of mine. MBO can be bought, but all the data you have on HD can't :\

evga is the only manufacturer who allows changing the cooler without warranty void, so in that case you should be good to go if they are dead

I don't know, the reason probably this happened was both my pumps stopped working for video cards! I had afterburner on and I saw my temps shoot up to 90C, but with no cooling whatsoever it just lit up I guess.
I hope cards are okay. Gonna be long day at work.

overheating of the gfx cards shouldnt be a problem, they throttle down fast not to burn. even temps over 100°C for a short time are no problem for them. modern cards even work in 2d mode without any active cooling. and that wouldn cause the mainboard to burn like shown on your pics.
even a small water leak shoulnt be a problem since distilled water doesnt conduct fluid (ok lets say only in a fucking minimal way). on the other hand a malfunction of the psu could have given way too much power on the slot so maybe that could not have only killed the caps but the cards too. its very hard to in this case to chose which part has caused this
the best ending of this story would be: just a defect motherboard (cause it was kinda new)

Nothing he did cleaning probably caused it, solid state caps if manufactured wrong can easily short out. If they short out while under high charge and break out then expect a bang lol.
It was probably dodgy from day one but over time just slowly got worn out. SSC'c generally provide extended good long life but they are not perfect either, bad luck as I said.
It is rare but it happens, not going to look but was his board an MSI? They had some fires in the past regarding caps If I recall. |
