Well last year a Swedish gaming site said pewdiepie made $4 million in 2013. They found out by going through his tax records (in sweden everyone's tax records are public). Well someone finally decided to check and see how much he made in 2014 and it went up to $7.45 million USD.
It pissed me off a bit because before this idiot even started I got banned for copyright issues from youtube in 2008 for playing video games and without ads enabled. BUT this guy can do it for profit and still going. WTF this guy is worse then the pirates IMO. Oh and if anyone has watched some of his videos you can see he even pirated some games to make videos for profit, Silent Hill, Super Mario 64 and Conker's Bad Fur Day are some that come to mind, it is obvious from things that pop up in game and he didn't edit out that show they were pirated.

Jewtube won't ban him because he makes THEM money. Lots and lots of money.
Personally I can't stand his online persona, much less his face. I read he's completely different in real life so I suppose it's just an act for the audience.

There was I think the first Amnesia the PC game that was pirated, way back when he did that, can't find the video for that, maybe he deleted it. He used a rip from torrent sites from what I remember and it was missing textures that would appear as black squares in certain parts just like people would complain on the ThePirateBay torrent about.
I don't mind emulated games since they have major advantages when doing such vids (like savestate) - that's not piracy since, if you own the cartridge, you're legally allowed to emulate it.

True but one of the things for youtube was that I got copyright strikes for was just that I emulated. It isn't considered legal if you don't dump it yourself. What are the chances he got a cartridge dumper and conker and dumped it himself?
There was another youtuber that pirated Assasin's Creed and on the top left it showed Ali312 the p2p group. His video got taken down and then it was reuploaded with a white box on the top left. That is kind of bad too but the guy donates all the money to charity and his videos are kind of funny. I won't mention him but still it is one of those WTF things, compared to what I was doing with no ads and no profit.
He seems like a decent guy when he abandons his annoying persona, this is the first time that I could tolerate one of his videos for more than 5 seconds.
His success is and will always be a huge mystery to me, but then again in a world where Justin Bieber's videos have been watched by 1+ billion of people, anything can happen. Kudos to him for having struck gold (literally). He also has a hot Italian girlfriend, just to rub it in our faces.

The "got to dump it yourself" thing is bullshit - it's like if you own music on tape or on records and you download MP3.
Back in the Napster days, the music industry spread the rumour that you were only allowed to use mp3 files that you copied straight off your own source material which several court cases plainly said was bullshit. A license is a license. If you bought the music, regardless of the source material, unless the version of the song is different you can download it any way you want. The Uk made a law that curtailed this right though (guess who received bribes ... ).
With roms, the main thing you got to watch out for, is the version of the ROM - if you want to be 100% legal. Don't download PAL if you got the NTSC version and visa versa.
I don't like PewDiePie's character, at all, but as a person? He seems completely normal. Do I envy him? Am I jealous? Fuck yeah I am, the dude makes MILLIONS for playing videogames and being silly. Do I hate him for that? Call him names and attack him? Nope, not at all.

I'm happy for Pewdiepie. He found something he loves doing and he's making bank with it. Many kids like him and he was in the right place at the right time to take advantage of the situation. If Sofia Vergara can make 40 mil a year and Mayweather earned 200 with his last fight I don't see the issue with Pewds, considering he's the biggest name of all the youtube celebrities.
good for him. I tried to watch his videos about 3 times and i honestly don't get it, i think its beyond stupid and annoying, but looks like there's a lot of people who don't think the same way.
