Need a new monitor to go with my shiny new 980ti, which I'm ordering soon Just undecided on G1 or reference, as, at present, there are no water blocks for the G1, but its looking like reference.
Any suggestions?
Tempted to go for the ROG Swift, but the TN panel is putting me off a little. Not interested in 4K, but GSync is a must
not many options for you then. either get Acer XB270HU (which has some build quality issues but newer batch is better apparently), or wait for Asus PG2749Q that should come out in August or so.
There is also coming curved 35" VA G-Sync 144Hz 21:9 Monitor from Acer (Acer Predator Z35). Ultra widescreen is so fucking sweet really for gaming (when it works, but works usually with flawless widescreen utility on bad ports), also for movies its awesome.
EDIT: Curved Acer Predator XR341CK 34" (3440x1440 AH-IPS 100hz G-Sync) confirmed for september 2015 release. 1200 dollars tho
^^yep to both posts
those 4 options are currently the best for gaming with Nvidia, but the VA is only 79ppi and there is a photo of the subpixels that looks like it has a grainy matte coating, contrast is also only 2000:1 which is low for a VA panel
144hz 27'' 2560x1440 IPS
Acer XB270HU (G-Sync)
Asus PG279Q (G-Sync)
Asus MG279Q (Freesync)
Yeah, I had closely looked at the Acer XB270HU, but after reading the numerous horror stories, and the panel being below sub-par quality, no thanks. Pity, as it looked a cracking bit of kit
You can read horror stories pretty much on every panel these days, quality control is absolutely shit even on top end monitors (backlight bleed etc..). Welcome to the panel lottery ... I have been thinking for months now buying bigger 21:9 screen with 3440x1440 resolution, but the panel lottery man... jesus . My current 29" one has absolutely flawless panel, so good (nothing wrong in this one, i just want bigger one ).
I've the ROG and a 980ti. I've zero complaints with the screen and the refresh rate is rather awesome. The only thing, which may not effect you, is that the Oculus Rift currently does not work with g-sync monitors. Apparently they're working on a fix but no eta
Intel Core i7-4790K 4.00GHz - 32GB Kingston HyperX - Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 7 - EVGA GTX 980 TI SC 6GB - Asus ROG Swift PG278Q
Yeah, but thing is, ACER have let themselves down lately with their QC, so there will be a lot that will not trust them on that one.
The Predator XB270HU is an utter disgrace, and a good example of 'hit the random button', with what shit you may get. Yes, one may get lucky and you will get a good one, but it shouldn't be that way, more so, when one is spending hundreds of pounds on that hardware, and with a quick glance over @ OC.UK and other places, shows ACER don't give a damn regardless, despite knowing of the situation.
I mean, dirt in the panel? WTF?, and on several occasions, not just a one off. Go read, its long, and disturbing.
Then there is the ROG. Well, being an ASUS fan, let me just say, that I'm glad they don't have the same QC for their motherboards as do their monitors, else systems would be in shit everywhere.
I could understand if they were charging 'peanuts' for the hardware, like, you get what you pay for...blah..blah, but no, its FULL price (and then some), and you take your ticket for the panel lottery. ROLL UP, ROLL UP, lets see who the next lucky customer is to walk away happy, ticket 1382!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!! money well spent, the other 10,000 hopefuls can fuck off!! Buy another ticket!
they are all overpriced except the MG279Q but that one lacks motion blur reduction/strobing and it has only FreeSync
they all have shitty QC, not only Acer, Asus, also Dell has a lot of crappy monitors lately and even Eizo monitors have shitty QC unless you get one of the models that cost a 4-figure sum
oh there is stil the VA panel left but not only does it lack higher resolution, adaptive sync and strobing, it is completely overpriced as well (999$ at newegg for the BenQ, even higher at some other places)

You can't have strobing + VRR anyway, regardless of whether it's Adaptive Sync or G-Sync.

FS2332, FS2333 and FG2421 here and all 3 are quite fine

still some hope left for the G-sync version to be 100hz but wouldn't get my hopes up too soon
It won't be. GS is limited by the panel's capabilities just like AS is. If the panel is incapable of dropping below X Hz or going above Y Hz, GS doesn't change that at all.

True, but its still a nice option to have for some games.
Even though it dims the image significantly, on most monitors. Exception are the 24gm77b and your fg2421 - which you are really lucky to have a good version of btw. they are rare.
Don't need to mention the countless horror stories with that monitor
The already discontinued LQ235D1LW03 panel it uses has a huge incidence of bad batches and most of the good panels Eizo put in the 6000$ FDF2405W.
The FS2333 is a good monitor, still one of the best PLS out there and one of the few with a very light AG coating. Too bad it has 200hz PWM.
Monitors nowadays are not always that lucky but this is not necessarily the fault of Eizo etc. but the actual panel makers and shitty standards in their factories
So many panels have dirt in them recently for example
Also an increasing number of the cheaper IPS nowadays, no matter the brand, seem to have serious uniformity problems not only on black but also on white backgrounds (dark corners or a parasitic hue)

Yeah I thought so. Hmm..
The original rumour came from Acer Engineers claiming to have been able to overclock the panel to 100hz.
It is still possible they did not have time to implement it in the FreeSync version of the monitor, or they are deliberately holding it back for the more expensive G-Sync version (now named XR341CKA after all).
But maybe its more probable they simply failed at overclocking properly and the picture became unstable over time or skipped frames.
How about Dell U3415W? It's 60Hz only but still quite good monitor for random gaming.
After seeing these videos I just couldn't consider 16:9 anymore..
When you sit in front of these 21:9 immersion is from another planet compared to 16:9. It really is. It is also hard to understand it unless you try it for yourself.

Yup bud, a box as big as Jupiter, but my address label perfectly placed over what I wanted to know. Was suspicious right away, as I knew that V2 models range from MAY onwards at the very least (ideally you want a JUNE one), so was lookin out for the label on box, but nothing, lol!
Out with my little steamer and off comes the address label, only to reveal what I already knew
Trying to get rid of old stock I guess?, but not so with me fuckers. Wasn't born yesterday!
Return initiated, and @ £700 a shot, they can stick it up their ass!
The manufacturer code on the website for the V2 matches what's on the sticker but I guess that perhaps it's the same for the original model and the V2 ?

I also just ordered a 980 ti so i've been researching monitors a bit (got a 24" IPS currently).
Anyone tried the Samsung S34E790C or any of the other Ultra Wide monitors? They dont have G-sync but i dont think i could care less about it, i'm not into fast shooters or racing + the games i will play at that resolution will hardly ever go over 60 FPS with just 1 980 ti anyways.
I also looked at LG 29UM55 which is dirt cheap, but i think it will be too small for ultrawide, basically a 24" + few added inches to the sides, 6bit color depth kind of sucks too, seems nice otherwise, for the price (280 euro or so).
How's support for 21:9? I guess its non-existant for old games, though i guess some can be "hacked"/edited to support it.
