|
 |
So my fiancée's PC is coming to an end, most games need lowest settings and low resolution to get a cinematic experience.
Now that she seen Fallout 4, it's time for an upgrade since hers won't be able to run it at all.
The setup I came up with:
So I was wondering if it looked fine to ya'll or that you maybe have other suggestions...BUT!!!!
There's some conditions:
Can't go higher in price than we have (It's already stretched to the max)
The system will not be OC'd and the resolution will not go above 1080p so keep that in mind.
And I'm stuck with 2 web shops since she doesn't want to order from anywhere else: Webhallen and Inet.se
Two more things I was wondering:
- With 1080p in mind would the 128bit be a bottleneck for a GTX960? And with what I chose: should I even think of the 960?
- Should I wait now with the new AMD line-up aka: will there be significant price drops that it makes sense to wait and get it with another GPU?
It's been a while, so go easy on me. Haven't followed anything in detail for the past two year.

just wait till mid october and then look again
and i would go for used components, much more power for less money |
I know, but her PC can't run anything these days, so for a gamer having to wait till November to play... ( I knew it would come up, should have emphasized a bit more on the current performance of her PC )
I'd be more comfy with buying used components in Belgium, over here I have less experience with the places and the market is rather limited compared to what I'm used of.

you could get a used 2500k + board for about 150 euros atm, should be the same in sweden. oc that thing and you are good to for atleast two more years. much more power than the i3 which almost costs the same as that combo. or ask some friend in belgium to watch out for such a combo cheap and send it to you

If you could cut back and make savings on the case psu and cooler (stay on stock cooling you won't be needing more anyway) and get a i5 quad cpu that would make the bigger difference.
Edit: sorry I read h80i cooler in that list. I was mistaken

Yeah it's going to be stock cooled, case: she's quite picky (it was a nightmare to find one she liked). It's still an option (the i5), depending where the GPU prices are going and what the sales will do.

Ah thanks, Janz and Breezer.
The xfx does indeed look like a good replacement for the Antec if I need a few more bucks elsewhere.

620W is way overboard for that system.
See my thread in the VIP section Morph; replace the GPU for a slightly more powerful one

No im not drunk, and they are still low end shit from both manufacturers. They use very low quality capacitors for those budget PSU´s, ofcourse they do the job but cant get even near of that XFX one for example in quality (XFX is also priced pretty much the same).

Ah thanks, I actually forgot about that one.
Yup the 620W is indeed overboard, I had a few decent PSU's in mind that I had read up in the past and it was the first one I noticed. Reason I went with that one.

People get way picky over PSU's and yeh sure if you are building a expensive high end rig grab an expensive high end unit.
In reality though on lower power systems a "cheap shit" PSU will likely last the lifetime of the rig no problems. I wouldn't bat an eyelid at using one of those PSU's included with coolermasters low end cases in cheap builds. Infact PSU problems in general are not that common in normal situations.
Before anybody pipes in about the consequences of PSU failure. I am aware of them.
I'm just saying it's not quite the roulette game or high risk that people seem to think it is when you are not pushing the unit.

I for one would agree with Breezer here.
Invest in a quality PSU once, you won't have to replace it for atleast 5 years.
I have had my share of buying cheap 40€ PSUs every 2-3 years, no more, no more.
I doubt I will have to replace this Rosewill Tachyon anytime soon.
Although my second PC I just built from scrap parts and stuff does have some cheap ass crappy LC Power but it's not like the PC is a monster either (P67 Sabertooth, some i3 to go with it, HD7870, 60GB SSD+random HDD, 8GB of memory).
Won't buy a PSU for it when I paid like 75€ total for it anyway lol
Runs games without any issues on some skimpy 1400x900 display, didn't have any issues on my TV at full HD either.

ofc you should invest in a quality psu. but those i mentioned are quality and not that expensive as well! and 500w is more than enough for future upgrades

It is, I'm just a bit skittish about Corsair since I read up on those and some people brought up the less qualitative capacitors. Also I know how annoying PSU failures are from previous job experience so I tend to over do it on PSU's by default.
The wattage I know was overkill, it was just the first one I recognized and knew it was good quality. I'd prefer lower wattage for this build anyway.

the cheap chinese shit is 750-800 watt psu for ~30 euros, like lcpower or xilence or whatever the shit is called. maybe they can deliver that power, but not for more than one second and after that it goes boom.
as mentioned many times: get a good psu, no bullshit, the risk that a chinesefirecracker dies and takes more components with it over the styx is high

I know right, I was setting up a build around that time. Since I knew she would be asking for an upgrade soon. She saw me working on it and said: "You don't have to look into it, I rather wait since it's an expensive year."

Nah that was last month, she changed when she saw Fallout 4, and me playing a bit of Witcher 2/3.
Don't think she actually played on my PC yet. Told her she could when she was dying to play Metro Last Light but couldn't run it.
Not that that would work out, she's too picky... hates my mouse since it's claw grip, hates my Keyboard since it's not a flat one,... xD Tho I can relate to that, I'm as picky when it comes to my favourite past time.

he has a point ^^
but as i said before: i would go for a used combo with 2500k and z-board to overclock, you have to invest a bit in a good cpu-cooler but that should be worth it end end out with the same price as a new i3 but with much more power
