So a guy that I met on the hackathon is throwing his birthday party today and invited my wife and me. But I have absolutely no clue on what to buy? Help plox. Got 1 hour to go and get something Smile (he is married and has 2 kids)

He is a bit more on the intellectual side of things so I'm not sure if the usual Jägermeister would work with him Laughing

You could always just get a bottle of red wine. A Bordeaux is always nice. (St. Emilion f.e.)

Or a single malt if he is into that stuff. I can recommend a few good ones if you have a price.

What are you going to invest?

Like I said. A Bordeaux is always nice, so you cant go wrong with that and if you take my advice on the St. Emilion, you'll get a really nice bottle for around 20€ depending on the store.

If you have a specialized store around just go there and ask. They will be glad to help.

Of course you could get something different. Like a book or a few ticktes for the cinema.

If you have 50€ to spend, take two bottles. Its always nice to have a second bottle if the first is delicious. Very Happy

we are getting old. catching myself more often right now to sip wine instead of beer or cocktails, aaaaah man.

but again its difficult to get something for a person u dont really know. if hes not a dry alcoholic you cant go wrong with 1-2 bottles of good wine.

have to go to a wedding in an hour, we just decided to put money in a little gift box and thats it. no reason to buy just random stuff they dont need. i voted for a godzilla costume cause the bride is pregnant, but that got declined Laughing

Regarding the st emilion. Just looked up and they are starting from 7 to 90 euro. A 15 euro one should be ok? Anything specific I need to look out for?Smile

(There are 2007 ones for 15 and one 2011 for 90 euro:?)

imo, that should be ok. (It also depends on the store. If they are pros, they will know.)

2009 was a good year iirc. Dont know about 2007 but that should still be good.

"Grand Cru" is part of the appelation of the wine. It means it has a certain quality.

You can look for the term Premier Grand Cru classé or simply Grand cru classé, which means its one of the best.

But Gravet Grand Cru 2010 should be fine. (edit, well 2011 aswell)

I have no idea what Bampfield means. Laughing

any marktkauf near you? most of their stores have a excellent wine selection (even with either a computer there to guide you jon snow or a person), and you dont have to pay 30 euros per bottle to get a good one. in this case marktkauf still kinda is expensive, so it would end up 15-19 euros per bottle
