I played a lot more than a year ago. It run crappy on my previous PC and got even worse with each subsequent patch. But after a while it got playable, so I was having a blast - rolling through the continent in one of 4-5 platoons of my clan (coordinated via teamspeak). Battles of 200 Vanu ppl versus an alliance of the other two (forgot their names) - great.

At first I couldn't get used to flying (Vanu's Scythe), but then I loved it. Lone trips as a short-range infiltrator behind the enemy lines were great as well, just for the fun of shooting ppl in the back and having them wonder WTF Very Happy

As for the model - yeah, it may be considered pay2win but since an individual can't do shit on his own - it's not that striking. I didn't buy anything with real cash, I just earned my certs and bought things ingame. I'm fairly patient, and didn't have any pressure to get certain things.

I'm even thinking about getting back from time to time.

Game got a massive performance boost again, better multithreading seems to have solved the cpu bottleneck. Very good and stable fps in some serious situations now while still looking good at high settings.

Gameplay itself hasn't changed a lot though, no metagame or cross continent link.

Yes around that. A week ago reddit was still crying for a hotfix on some serious issues but now they are praising DBG for delivering a very good update.

Well no shit, after the Russian mafia bought the studio from Sony it looks like they aren't going to suck it dry. Instead they are REALLY working on it.

Quote:
Conquest Game Mode

The Beta implementation of the our first Game Mode, Conquest, is being released on PTS. Please note, this is a Beta, so bugs should be expected.

We've purposely tried a simple ruleset to see how the whole game mode idea plays out. Let us know about the bugs you find and please give us your feedback on the mode itself. We have a lot of ideas for future iterations and usability/flow changes to make this better, but we want to get your take ASAP.

Objective: Reach 13k points or score the most points by the end of the alert to win.

Special Rules:
Points are earned the following ways:
Kills = 1 point
Capping or Defending Small Outposts = 150 points
Capping or Defending Large Outposts = 300 points
Capping or Defending Facilities = 750 points
Mode takes place on a modified version of Indar
Lattice has been altered to only include Large Outpost and Facilities
Small Outposts can be captured using adjacency rules
Instant Action and Redeploy are disabled
Nanite costs are halved
Warpgates are rotated between each match

It's getting real. PC Master Race

Very nice indeed Smile

This + the new performance boost could make me come back to PS, depending on if I can rejoin my old U.S. platoon Razz

Nice addition.
Too bad the game never really did it for me during the several times i tried it out.

I prefer to play something like BF4 instead.

Watching videos of coordinated groups playing PS2 is awesome though. Very Happy

I had a freakin blast when I rolled with the BRTD guys on Miller. It's a game about zerging, and it was nice to be an Ultralisk instead of a Zergling for a change. Very Happy

PlanetSide 1 Closure
Quote:
While we hope you are as excited as we are about the recent changes, we do have to make a more solemn announcement. On July 1st, at 4:00 PM PT, we will be closing the PlanetSide 1 server. PlanetSide 1 has a very important history with Daybreak Games and a special place in the hearts of those who work on its successor. While we have run the game for free since 2014, due to evolving business needs and technical requirements it has become necessary to conclude this service.

I thought the first game was offline for a long time already?

Probably DC Universe Online or Everquest.

It's funny that fucking investment bankers think they know the first thing about gaming, or maintaining/growing a community to ensure future profitability. Then again, you've probably gotta be kind of a cocky asshole to begin with to work at that level of finance, so it's not really that surprising.

Man I miss the golden age of SOE.
